Setting the Record Straight on Charlie Kirk's Friendships

Candace Owens opens with a pointed critique of Tucker Carlson, describing him as someone who "prays on the friendship he proclaims with others and then he knifes them directly between the shoulder blades when convenient for him." Owens bluntly states that Tucker Carlson is "in short a terrible friend," despite supposedly being Charlie Kirk's friend.

Owens addresses the controversy surrounding Nick Fuentes, noting that Charlie Kirk believed Fuentes was "vermin"—a direct quote—because Fuentes "dedicated his life to destroying Charlie Kirk and TPUSA from the inside." He pushes back against the notion that being a good friend means you must agree not to host certain people on your platform, calling this idea "so anti-Charlie, it's unbelievable."

The Ben Shapiro Tensions: Text Messages and Behind-the-Scenes Drama

Owens then drops a significant revelation: "It is simply a fact, which I feel comfortable sharing now, that Charlie and Ben Shapiro did not get along because Charlie found out that Ben was operating behind the scenes to stop him and sort of hinder the growth of Turning Point USA in our early days."

He backs up this claim with evidence: "And I have only about 80 to 150 text messages from Charlie to that effect. This is not a debate, by the way. This is a fact. So, challenge me to share the messages. I will gladly."

According to Owens, part of Ben Shapiro's upset stemmed from a joke Owens made about him during a Joe Rogan appearance in 2018. Owens recounted the moment: "I know these types in school. Like, I was in their classes, you know, like they're just like you're like late to school or like the last person you want to see is like the hall monitor. Like, you know, like the idea that you would be late right, like he's writing you a pink slip. It's like Ben just give me the pink slip dude."

The Hilarious Photo That Became an Inside Joke

Despite Ben Shapiro's reported attempts to hinder Turning Point USA, Owens shares how the story evolved: "Charlie stuck with me despite Ben's urging. We kept climbing. We reached a point where as a team Charlie and I were suddenly undeniable."

Charlie Kirk's perspective was simple: "Just laugh and move on." When they received an invite to appear on Ben Shapiro's show, Owens initially resisted: "I'm like no f that he was so awful to us." But Charlie saw it differently: "No, it's great. Let's do it because we won."

Owens describes what happened in the green room at the location in Sherman Oaks, California: "Charlie says to me, 'Hey, will we take a photo with him? I'm going to puff my chest out and stand extra tall. So we never forget this moment of us having triumphed over Ben Shapiro.' And he actually does it. And it was completely hilarious."

The photo became "our perfect inside joke every time we felt like he was kind of saying little things about us." Owens reflects: "That was just the spirit of Charlie and we moved on from it. He was always cordial beyond that. He never felt any nastiness."

Charlie Kirk's True Character: Cordial Despite Differences

Owens emphasizes the point of sharing these stories: "To make it very clear that Charlie loved Tucker. Charlie was not in love with Ben Shapiro. He didn't hate Ben Shapiro. He just, I would say, experienced Ben Shapiro."

Despite their complicated history, Charlie Kirk "always, as I said, kept it cordial because that's who he was as a person."

Owens concludes with a strong statement about why he's speaking out: "But what I will not allow is this absolute inversion of reality where Ben Shapiro becomes any sort of voice on who is and who is not betraying their friendship with Charlie. I will not allow it."
