Charlie Kirk and AWR Hawkins on Constitutional Carry After Concealed Carrier Saves Lives at 40 Yards
Charlie Kirk and AWR Hawkins discuss the response to a 22-year-old concealed carrier who stopped a threat from 40 yards away, landing eight out of ten shots. While critics called him a vigilante, Kirk and Hawkins argue his actions exemplify the success of constitutional carry laws. They explore how half the country now has constitutional carry, the left's failed predictions of chaos, and why Kirk believes full reciprocity across all states would make Americans safer everywhere they go.
AWR Hawkins from Breitbart News joined Charlie Kirk at a Turning Point USA event in Tampa to discuss a story that captured national attention. A 22-year-old American with a concealed carry permit stopped a dangerous threat, making a shot from 40 yards away and landing eight out of ten rounds. Kirk emphasized that Americans should know this young man's name and remember his actions.
What made the story even more compelling was how the young man handled the situation. He told bystanders to get behind him while he took care of the threat. Hawkins noted the precision required for such a shot, particularly under high-stress circumstances. Kirk agreed, acknowledging that he himself might not be capable of such accuracy in that moment.
The Left's Response: Vigilante or Good Samaritan?
The conversation turned to how the political left responded to the incident. Rather than celebrating the young man as a hero or good Samaritan, critics labeled him a vigilante. Hawkins pointed out that this reaction reveals a fundamental disagreement about freedom and the right to self-defense.
Kirk saw the incident as a perfect example of how concealed carry laws work in practice. The young man carried in a state with constitutional carry laws, the very type of legislation that opponents claimed would lead to chaos and bloodshed in the streets.
Constitutional Carry: Predictions vs. Reality
Hawkins reminded viewers that when constitutional carry laws were being debated, critics warned of dire consequences. They predicted blood in the streets and widespread chaos if people were allowed to carry firearms without permits. The reality has proven quite different.
Approximately half the country now has constitutional carry laws, and the predicted mayhem has not materialized. In fact, Hawkins and Kirk argue that the evidence points in the opposite direction—these laws contribute to public safety by ensuring that law-abiding citizens can defend themselves and others.
The Case for Full Reciprocity
Kirk advocated for taking constitutional carry to the national level through full reciprocity. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court might one day mandate that concealed carry rights be recognized across all state lines, allowing Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights regardless of where they travel.
Drawing on his experience living in Arizona, which has some of the most permissive gun laws in the country, Kirk explained why he feels safer in public spaces knowing that armed citizens are present. Whether at a restaurant, movie theater, or place of business, he finds comfort in the knowledge that if a threat emerges, it won't just be met by his own response.
Kirk estimated that in any given Arizona establishment, there might be ten or twelve armed patriots ready to defend liberty and protect innocent lives if something dangerous were to occur. This armed citizenry, he argued, serves as a deterrent to crime and a safeguard for public safety.
