Charlie Kirk Debates College Student Who Says He Looks Like a Rapist Because He's White

In this campus debate clip, a college student tells Charlie Kirk that simply looking at him, she knew exactly the kind of person she'd expect to be arguing for conservative positions, a decent-looking white man, likely raised middle or upper-middle class, wearing a Make CU Great Again hat. When Kirk asks what his being white has to do with anything, a third person standing nearby tells the woman she doesn't need ad hominem attacks to win an argument. She insists she isn't using one, then tells Kirk he looks like a frat brother. Kirk asks whether that means he's more enlightened than other people; she says it's the opposite, it means he's more likely to rape someone. Kirk pushes back, saying he doesn't appreciate being racially stereotyped as the type of person who commits sexual assault. The woman responds that white people don't experience racism, describing herself as having lived the white suburban stereotype.

You're a Living Stereotype

A college student approaches Charlie Kirk and tells him that just by looking at him, she knew exactly the kind of person she would expect to be arguing his side of the debate. She describes him as a living stereotype: his Make CU Great Again hat, what she calls a decent-looking white man, and an assumed upbringing in a middle-class or upper-middle-class household. Kirk asks directly what his being white has to do with anything in the conversation.

The Ad Hominem Warning

A third person standing nearby interjects, telling the woman she doesn't need to rely on ad hominem attacks to make her argument. She insists she isn't doing that, even as she continues describing Kirk's appearance. Kirk presses her on the inconsistency, asking why she is racially stereotyping him when she herself identifies as white. She tells him it's because he looks like a frat brother.

From Frat Brother to Rapist

Kirk asks, somewhat rhetorically, whether being told he looks like a frat brother means he is more enlightened than other people. The woman corrects him: it means the opposite. It means, she says, that he is more likely to rape someone. Kirk asks her to confirm what she just said, and she does. He responds that he does not appreciate being racially stereotyped as the type of person who commits sexual assault.

White People Don't Deal With Racism

The woman shifts the argument, stating that white people do not experience racism and describing her own background as fitting the white suburban stereotype. Kirk asks why, in his experience, conversations with the left always seem to return to race. She tells him it is because race matters.

E Pluribus Unum

Kirk closes the exchange by invoking the national motto E Pluribus Unum — out of many, one — as a counterpoint to the framing she has offered. When she notes she graduated summa cum laude with a history degree, Kirk responds that this likely explains why she is, in his view, more confused than she would have been without it.
