Charlie Kirk on the Trump-Musk Feud: What Really Happened When Elon Unfollowed Me and Dropped the Epstein Files Claim

Charlie Kirk addresses the public feud between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk that has broken out over the reconciliation bill and governmental roles. The conflict escalated when Musk claimed credit for the 2024 election victory and then accused Trump of being in the Epstein files, prompting Trump to fire back about ending government subsidies and contracts. Kirk, who was unfollowed by Musk during the conflict, offers his perspective on the accusations, the reality of Trump's connection to Epstein, and why he believes this movement is bigger than any one person. He explains why he remains on team America and hopeful that both men can reconcile their differences to continue fighting for Western civilization.

The Public Feud Explodes Between Two Titans

The conflict between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk has erupted into public view in spectacular fashion. Elon Musk has unfollowed Charlie Kirk on Twitter as the tensions escalate. Kirk begins by acknowledging gratitude toward Musk for buying X, liberating speech, and putting his money, time, and treasure toward saving Western civilization. However, what started as private tensions has turned into what Kirk describes as "a chaotic mess."

The feud began with Elon Musk making a bold claim: "Without me Trump would have lost the election. Democrats would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude." Kirk characterizes this as a complicated statement where Musk essentially claims that because of him, the 2024 election was won. While acknowledging that Musk played a role, as did Turning Point, Kirk emphasizes this was President Trump's victory. Trump is the reason millions showed up to vote, the man who got shot in Butler, Pennsylvania and outperformed the polls again.

Trump Fires Back With Economic Threats

President Donald Trump responded forcefully to Musk's claims, stating: "Elon was wearing thin. I asked him to leave. I took away his electric vehicle mandate that forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted, that he knew for months I was going to do. And he just went crazy." Trump continued with a direct economic threat: "The easiest way to save money in our budget, billions and billions of dollars, is to terminate Elon's governmental subsidies and contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it."

Musk responded to a tweet from Laura Loomer with his own warning: "Oh, and some food for thought as they pondered this question. Trump has three and a half years left as president, but I will be around for 40 plus years."

The Epstein Files Accusation That Broke the Internet

Then Elon dropped what Kirk calls "the thermonuclear bomb" that broke the internet. Musk tweeted: "Time to drop the really big bomb. Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT. Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out."

Kirk immediately addresses this accusation head-on. He points out that President Donald Trump had an adversarial relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. The idea that ten years after Trump went down the golden escalator, there would suddenly be a new, previously unknown terrible allegation is nonsensical. Trump was sued by E. Jean Carroll and Stormy Daniels, yet now people are supposed to believe there's a smoking gun in the Epstein files?

Kirk explains what is actually in the Epstein files: Yes, President Donald Trump is probably mentioned. He was mentioned in the Epstein file dump back in February. Why? He lived in Palm Beach. There are probably thousands of names in the Epstein files. But was he part of the Epstein client list? Absolutely not. That is complete nonsense.

Third Party Threats and Escalating Tensions

Elon Musk has also threatened to start a third party, asking: "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?" The vast majority of responses were saying yes.

Kirk acknowledges there's no way to sugarcoat it—this is a mess, a pile of garbage. But he also offers perspective: at its fundamental core, it's not going to be a movement breaker. A month from now, we probably won't be talking about this. Two months from now, this is largely just heightened tension with lots of passions and emotions, a waxing and waning between Elon and Donald Trump.

Kirk emphasizes a crucial point: It's President Trump who won the election. He's the one that got elected. While we're thankful for what Elon did when the chips were down, Elon Musk did not win the election. He was not on the ballot. And Elon Musk is worth $420 billion. Tesla is down over a hundred billion in market cap.

What's Really Behind This Conflict

Kirk believes this is all because of the big beautiful bill, but thinks it's actually deeper than that. It's much more fundamental—really the question of who is the president of the United States and who did the people elect. This was bubbling up below the surface, and Kirk hopes they'll be able to remedy it. He thinks they can because we want the world's wealthiest man and the president on the same page, working in harmony, in agreement with one another.

Kirk mentions last week's attempted press conference between President Trump and Elon Musk, which was trying to provide a good way of departure, a way to say goodbye. It is unfortunate that we now have accusations acting as if President Donald Trump is somehow intimately involved with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Epstein Files Reality Check

Kirk reveals that Elon Musk got corrected by his own AI, Grok. The AI stated: "Evidence shows that Donald Trump's name is in the Jeffrey Epstein flight logs, part of Epstein files, but there's no indication of wrongdoing. The files were released by the Trump administration on February 25th, 2025, contradicting claims that they were withheld to protect him. While speculation persists, no new incriminating details about Trump have emerged from credible sources."

It's just not true, Kirk emphasizes. It is just a heightened food fight between the world's wealthiest man and the president.

Taking Sides and Moving Forward

Kirk asks his audience whose side they're on—President Trump or Elon Musk. You don't even have to take a side, he notes. But he makes his position clear: President Donald Trump has been doing this for ten years. He has been in the arena, in the trenches, fighting with grit and fortitude with everything possibly thrown at him. Elon's been in the fight for Western civilization for a couple years and in the political fight for about ten months.

This is a very big back and forth with high stakes. But Kirk says President Donald Trump is the one who has deserved credit for staying in the arena. He would not want to bet against him in any way, shape, or form. He hopes they can remedy this and that there can be some sort of healing.

A Personal Reflection on Being Unfollowed

Kirk addresses being unfollowed by Elon directly: "Hey, Elon, you're welcome to follow me back at any time. But Elon, honestly, I don't take it personally. I always said, 'Hey, this is cool that the world's richest man is following me on Twitter. It's cool that I was able to call him a friend for a certain time.' I'm not bitter. I'm not upset. I'm not angry."

Kirk reflects on what he learned: "You know what? It was a cool learning and teaching moment. I got to see how one of the most productive, eccentric, one of the most daring, risk-taking entrepreneurs of a generation thought, how he operated. I was able to see kind of how unique President Trump and Elon Musk were. I've been at dinners with both of them at Mar-a-Lago, sitting down and seeing how they think about the world and how they converse with one another. That was pretty awesome to see, pretty amazing to witness."

That chapter is coming to an end, Kirk says. So be it. And he's not bitter about it. Instead, he's thankful that all this was able to happen, thankful for Elon Musk's support. He thinks this is all going to calm down and there will be better days ahead.

The Real Threat Remains

Kirk extends an olive branch: "Elon, if you want to follow me back, you're always welcome. If you want to come back to be part of the saving Western civilization movement once tensions go down, that invite will always be extended because we have to be focused on the true threat to Western civilization."

The threat is Marxism, he explains. The threat is open borders. The threat is the ever-growing portion of totalitarianism. They're going to stay focused to make sure the main thing remains the main thing. President Donald Trump is not on the Epstein client list. That's just a silly accusation that has temporarily broken the internet.

Understanding the Alpha Clash

Kirk offers additional perspective: When you have two titans, two alphas going back and forth with one another, it is understandable and very normal that neither is going to bend the knee. You have to wonder what nuclear option could go above accusing somebody of being in the Epstein files. And as this unfolds in real time, Kirk is sure President Trump is cooking up another salvo to launch at Elon.

But understand, Kirk emphasizes, our movement is bigger than just Elon. It's bigger than just one person. This is a nationalist populist movement of people of different backgrounds, different races, different creeds, different religions coming together to save this beautiful thing called Western civilization—to save the consent of the governed, to save separation of powers, to save the divine providence that we have here in the West.

The Enemy's Playbook

Kirk notes that this is exactly what the media and the Democrats have always wanted. The stoking of this feud, this continuation of this narrative only plays into the New York Times, plays into CNN, and plays into the opposition's playbook. The enemy would love to do nothing more than to try to tear us apart with venom, accusation, and poisonous intent.

They're going to stay keeping the main thing the main thing. They are on team America. Kirk hopes Elon and President Trump can heal this difference and heal these divides, come to some form of reconciliation—because it is, after all, the reconciliation bill that caused some of the severance.

A Peace Treaty Is Possible

Knowing both of these men, and knowing President Trump much better than Elon, Kirk believes there's going to be a peace treaty moment, a calming down, a moment where both sides come together and recognize that we are stronger against the left than we are divided.

This is the highest profile legislative fight that we have had in our lifetime, Kirk notes. The stoking of this feud only plays into the opposition's playbook. But he remains hopeful, thankful to Elon's contribution to the West, and confident this will get solved soon.

Kirk concludes by reiterating: Elon Musk is no longer following him, but that's okay. We're thankful to his contribution to the West. Hope this gets solved soon. He's on team America, and we follow President Trump as we move onward to save this beautiful country.
