Charlie Kirk on Why the Machine is Weaker, Homeschool Revolution, and Life After Trump

Charlie Kirk sits down with Dave Rubin to discuss the crumbling infrastructure of mainstream media, the decline of Facebook, and the rise of alternative platforms like Rumble. Kirk explains why American trust in government and corporations has hit all-time lows, and how the homeschooling revolution and citizen activism represent unintended consequences of the Biden administration. From his 330 days of travel in 2021 to redefining what Turning Point USA stands for beyond Trump, Kirk reveals how adversity forced him to go deeper into philosophy, natural rights doctrine, and timeless ideas about what it truly means to be an American.

The Machine is Falling Apart

Charlie Kirk sees hope in the deterioration of critical components of what he calls "the machine." CNN has become a Democrat super PAC that nobody watches. Facebook is cratering while platforms like Rumble continue to ascend. These trends suggest the machine may not be as strong as it once was.

American trust in government has reached an all-time low. Trust in corporations has similarly plummeted. People are starting to care more about local issues than national trends, which Kirk views as particularly important. He believes the machine is significantly weaker than it was even a year ago, let alone five years ago.

Natural Law and the Multi-Trillion Dollar Infrastructure

Kirk suggests there's a natural law component at work. When attempting to build a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure, the laws of gravity eventually push back. Leaks, dissension, civil war, and fracturing become inevitable. This fracturing is visible not just within the Democrat party but within many of the superstructures where actual power resides.

While Kirk acknowledges he could take a cynical view that these people always maintain power and their infrastructure remains impenetrable, he's not convinced of that. He sees a revival challenging all these institutions, and those who love freedom and the Constitution are building their own infrastructure and their own machine.

Building Alternative Infrastructure

The regime appears surprised and shocked by how quickly alternatives have emerged. A YouTube competitor, payment processing competitor, Patreon competitor like Locals, and higher education competitor like University of Austin have all materialized. The monopoly on certain goods, services, and credentialing institutions faces serious challenges.

Kirk is clear that the establishment remains far more powerful, but he's optimistic that legitimate fault lines may materialize leading to their demise. This would represent a slightly better great reset than the one being promoted by the establishment.

The Biden Effect on Personal Priorities

When Dave Rubin asked Kirk for his top ten reasons he loves Joe Biden, Kirk acknowledged that Biden has actually made him prioritize things in life that truly matter. While politics still matters, the dumpster fire has forced him to look outside the madness and ask what really gives purpose and meaning.

Kirk used to revere the presidency, and he still loves his country, but the situation has been so awful that he's focused on what he can control: family, relationships, friendships, and career. Biden has reinforced for Kirk the distinction between things he can control and things he cannot. Unfortunately, he cannot control the southern border, which remains wide open and a total disaster.

Unintended Consequences and the Rise of the Citizen

Looking at the glass half full, Kirk identifies unintended consequences of what the regime has tried to implement. The rise of the citizen, the homeschooling revolution, and people genuinely caring about their country again represent opportunities. There's a window, a chance, a sliver for a political realignment unlike anything this generation has seen in 30 or 40 years.

Kirk doesn't believe it's certain by any chance that this will backfire on the establishment so dramatically, but the possibility exists. Everything has been so bad, so upside down, that even for those who expected the Biden administration to be bad, it's worse than most could have imagined.

A Demoralizing Start to 2021

The beginning of 2021 was particularly demoralizing for Kirk, not from an access standpoint or the ability to call the president, but for the country itself. At New Year's, he thought that even if Biden became president, winning the Senate races in Georgia would provide checks and balances through separation of powers. Then January 5th happened and those races were lost. January 6th followed, which Kirk describes as a catastrophe for a variety of reasons.

Kirk's team at Turning Point USA, which has always been educationally focused, and his team at the Charlie Kirk Show had to determine what they stood for. Kirk traveled 330 days in 2021, visiting campuses and churches. Notably, he didn't talk much about Trump or even Biden. Instead, the focus shifted to what it meant to be an American, what they stood for, and why they stood for it.

Reintroducing Himself Beyond Trump

This period forced Kirk to reintroduce himself to many people who simply knew him as the guy who defends Trump. The reception was positive in many ways. It also forced Kirk's team and show to go a level deeper. He spent more time in 2021 reading deep books, engaging with complex philosophy, and challenging his ideas about why he believes what he believes and where those beliefs originate.

Previously, the approach could be summarized as defending the president because the left was out of their mind and he was doing a good job. But once Trump was displaced from power, many people questioned whether to return to the Liz Cheney way of doing things. Questions arose about why borders should be controlled and other fundamental issues.

Philosophical Foundations and Timeless Ideas

Kirk recognized the need to approach these questions from a philosophically based perspective rooted in natural rights doctrine and timeless ideas while respecting the fruits of the Enlightenment. He believes his organization, show, and reach have all improved as a result. The show has become more interesting, the organization stronger, and they're reaching more people.

While Kirk doesn't claim to be thankful given the country's horrible shape, he acknowledges that they were able to use an adversarial situation and set of circumstances to their advantage. The forced evolution has made them better at articulating not just what they're against, but what they're fundamentally for.
