The Return to Tuscaloosa
Charlie Kirk returns to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, home of the University of Alabama, for a follow-up interview with Ron Hollyhood, the 15-year-old conservative commentator and Editor-in-Chief of The Truth Gazette. The two met in the same location where they conducted one of Hollyhood's first major interviews that broke the internet. Kirk, host of The Charlie Kirk Show and founder and president of Turning Point USA, discusses some of the most pressing issues facing conservatives across America.
Critical Race Theory: Racism in Reverse
When asked to define critical race theory, Kirk doesn't mince words: "It's racism pure and simple. It's judging people based on things that cannot change instead of based on things they can change." He explains that it represents organizing society completely opposite to how America has always aimed to function. Kirk points to what he calls the "wokelash" - Americans pushing back against policies like United Airlines hiring pilots based on skin color, black-only dormitories at Western Washington University, or black-only graduation ceremonies at Columbia University.
Kirk traces critical race theory to an academic framework based on power dynamics between oppressor and oppressed, with proponents believing white people are on top, black people are on the bottom, and that a revolution must be mounted against this structure. The theory fundamentally rejects the American ideal of judging people by character rather than immutable characteristics.
Parents Rising Up Against School Board Tyranny
Across the country, parents have begun speaking out at local school board meetings against critical race theory and liberal-influenced curriculums. Kirk emphasizes why this grassroots resistance matters: "They're your children and you're the guardians of their future." He notes that when asked, leftists will say parents have no say whatsoever over the upbringing of children, which Kirk calls "immoral, evil, and awful."
His advice to parents is straightforward: "Keep showing up and keep asking questions and don't let the Department of Justice intimidate you by calling you domestic terrorists." Kirk urges parents who haven't yet attended school board meetings to make it a priority, calling their involvement profoundly important for the future of their children and the country.
Vaccine Mandates and the Trampling of Freedom
Kirk addresses the vaccine mandates sweeping across America, affecting workers' livelihoods and students' educational opportunities. His position is clear: "No one should be forced to take a vaccine against their will." He particularly questions the logic of mandating vaccines for young people who face minimal and insignificant risk from COVID-19.
Kirk praises the courage of Americans who are prioritizing moral principles over their paychecks, calling them heroes. He reserves strong words for those implementing the mandates: "The tyrants that are pushing these mandates have to be stopped."
The New Jersey Truck Driver Who Changed Everything
Kirk's analysis of recent Republican victories focuses on an extraordinary story from New Jersey. Edward Durr, a truck driver, grandfather of six, father of three, Eagles fan, and Harley-Davidson rider, spent just $153.17 on his campaign - $70 of it at Dunkin' Donuts, the rest on flyers and yard signs. He defeated Steve Sweeney, the second most powerful politician in New Jersey, who had been in office since 2004.
"This is the thing," Kirk explains, "we're really dissatisfied with our rulers right now and we should be. Right now the people that are running the country are totally disconnected from the people who make the country run." He describes how at its best, a country has these two groups in harmony, where the people making the country run feel the people running it are listening to them or at least don't hate them.
The 32,000 voters who created a 2,000-vote margin for Durr represent truck drivers, port workers, teachers, firefighters, and police officers fed up with their treatment. Kirk emphasizes they're upset about friends and family members forced to get vaccinated against their will. He sees in New Jersey's tough population a spirit of accountability: "If you're not doing your job, we're going to hold you accountable."
The Continuation of Trump's 2016 Energy
Kirk argues the same energy that propelled Trump to victory in 2016 remains alive today. Americans are upset with what he characterizes as the "corrupt, baseless, boring mantra of America's ruling class." The truck driver's victory over a machine politician who effectively ran the entire state represents something profound.
"There's something special going on in this country," Kirk observes, noting that most television commentators are missing the point. He criticizes the interpretation that Glenn Youngkin won Virginia because he was a moderate, arguing instead that Youngkin gained traction when he embraced the same tone and tenor Trump had in 2016. This represents a multi-racial coalition with Christians finally getting reactivated and retaking their government.
What the Virginia Results Really Mean
Kirk dismisses the Republican establishment's interpretation of Glenn Youngkin's victory in Virginia. When House Republicans tweeted that the election showed Americans don't want socialism, Kirk pushed back: "That's not what the election was about at all. The election was about critical race theory, the election was about diversity equity inclusion about representation in schools."
He frames the issue as the arrival of a caste system in America that makes people anxious. Citizens don't like that there's an untouchable oligarchy, that Terry McAuliffe can wine and dine with the Clintons and Obamas at Martha's Vineyard birthday parties without following protocols while their kids have to wear masks in Loudoun County schools.
The Path to Republican Victory in 2022 and 2024
If Republicans want to take back the House, Kirk argues, "they have to be a vessel for the needs, wants, concerns, anxieties of a nation that wants to send a message to the unelected unaccountable bureaucrats." Americans are fed up with figures like Dr. Fauci and political machines, expressing a healthy sentiment: "I hate that guy. I don't like him because if I did what he did I would be fired."
Kirk believes this represents a normal and healthy process for American politics. He contends that Republicans should achieve an 80-seat majority in the House if they do their job correctly, and potentially a 55-seat Senate majority. The momentum is clearly there, but Republicans must correctly interpret what voters are actually demanding.
Fighting Big Tech Censorship the Smart Way
Addressing President Trump's upcoming Truth Social platform and conservative censorship, Kirk supports new platforms like Truth Social and Rumble while advocating a strategic approach to existing platforms. He doesn't believe conservatives should abandon Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube, arguing instead to stay as long as possible.
Kirk invokes a quote from Lech Walesa, who effectively pushed back against the Soviet Union in Poland: "We have enough martyrs. We don't need more martyrs. Instead we need deliberate small pieces of collectivized action." Kirk distinguishes between people censored for doing nothing wrong and those who intentionally break platform rules to become martyrs, getting their 30 minutes of fame but losing access to their audiences.
"I'm going to try to do just as much if not more posting on Rumble and try to weaken Facebook in that way," Kirk explains. He rejects the notion that if all conservatives left Facebook tomorrow it would lose power, noting you won't get 200 million people to stop using a platform overnight. Change happens over time as competitors emerge, though he believes Facebook should have been broken up, taxed, and penalized.
Message to Young Americans: Be the Same Person in Public and Private
Kirk's advice to young Americans wanting to get involved is direct: get involved with Turning Point USA at tpusa.com, attend AmericaFest, and "be the same person in public that you are in private. Speak out. Let your mind be heard." He emphasizes that this generation will soon be in charge, representing a new development where fresh ideas and new leadership can emerge rather than a few generations ruling everything.
Kirk rejects generational bashing, believing great ideas can come from people of any age. What matters most is courage and strength. "If you're young just speak out, organize and let your voice be heard," he urges. He compliments Hollyhood's relentless work ethic, saying "I know grit when I see it," and predicting that if Hollyhood maintains his current pace, "we'll all be working for you."
Personal Updates and Looking Forward
Kirk notes that since their last interview in the same Tuscaloosa location, he has gotten married. The interview concludes with mutual appreciation between the two, with Kirk expressing his value for their friendship and looking forward to returning to Tuscaloosa in the future, potentially with his wife next time.

[00:01] hello america i'm ron hollyhood 15 year
[00:04] old conservative commentator
[00:05] editor-in-chief of the truth gazette
[00:07] here today back in tuscaloosa alabama
[00:10] here at the home of the university of
[00:11] alabama we're here on campus with a good

[00:15] have been here for a while might
[00:16] remember but this is a familiar face to
[00:18] the channel i actually interviewed this
[00:19] guy right here just a few rooms down on
[00:21] this same location oh was it really at
[00:23] this hotel it was the same thing
[00:25] wow and um you know he was one of my
[00:28] first big interviews that broke the
[00:29] internet it was crazy and we're glad to
[00:31] have him back here on the show today
[00:33] please join me in welcoming that host to
[00:34] the charlie kirk show radio and podcast
[00:37] and founder president i'm turning point
[00:39] usa ladies and gentlemen please welcome
[00:41] mr chandler himself charlie welcome i'm
[00:42] honored we're all tied we're all sad
[00:44] glad to hear it welcome back to the show
[00:46] we really really appreciate thank you
[00:47] you bet well charlie let's go ahead and
[00:49] kick things off here by talking about
[00:50] some hot button issues across the
[00:51] country right now critical race gear yes
[00:54] actually what you're here tonight on
[00:55] campus to talk about uh so to start off
[00:57] here can you just explain what critical
[00:58] race theory is in a few words and
[01:00] explain why it's being pushed into the
[01:02] minds of our youth across the country by
[01:03] the loves and why we have to stop boy in
[01:05] a few words i don't know if i could do
[01:06] that uh it's racism pure and simple it's
[01:08] judging people based on things that
[01:10] cannot change instead of based on things
[01:12] they can change
[01:14] and it's organizing society completely
[01:17] the opposite way that you know america
[01:19] has always tried to to try to aim for
[01:21] and
[01:22] we kind of saw in the recent elections
[01:24] how americans have a distaste for this
[01:26] we kind of call it wokelash right where
[01:29] americans are kind of saying i i don't
[01:31] know if i'm
[01:32] on board for the idea of all of a sudden
[01:34] hiring airline pilots at united airlines
[01:36] based on skin color or black only
[01:38] dormitories like they have at western
[01:40] washington university or black only
[01:42] graduation ceremonies at columbia
[01:44] university and so yeah a critical race
[01:46] theory i could go into the academic
[01:47] theory of it probably not enough time to
[01:49] do that but it basically comes from a
[01:51] power dynamic view of the world of
[01:53] oppressor versus oppressed and they
[01:55] believe that white people are on top
[01:56] black people are on the bottom and that
[01:58] they're going to try to mount some sort
[02:00] of you know revolution against that
[02:03] absolutely you know across the country
[02:05] we've seen parents speaking out against
[02:06] critical race theory and other liberal
[02:08] influence curriculums being pushed into
[02:10] the minds of our youth um in the past
[02:12] few months have been speaking out at
[02:13] their local school board meetings you
[02:14] know why is it so important that these
[02:16] parents are taking up the responsibility
[02:17] themselves to speak out and what is your
[02:20] advice to them as someone who you know
[02:21] is on the national front line speaking
[02:22] out yourself yeah i mean well first of
[02:24] all i mean my advice is to keep showing
[02:26] up and keep asking questions and don't
[02:28] let the department of justice intimidate
[02:30] you by calling you domestic terrorist
[02:32] that's the very important thing but yeah
[02:34] i mean it's important obviously because
[02:35] they're your children and you're the
[02:36] guardians of their of their future and
[02:40] if you ask someone on the left they'll
[02:41] say oh they have no say whatsoever over
[02:43] the upbringing of your child which is
[02:45] it's just immoral it's evil it's awful
[02:47] and most americans don't agree with that
[02:49] at all and so for moms and dads out
[02:51] there keep on showing up for the school
[02:52] board meetings if you haven't showed up
[02:54] yet make sure you do that um it's it's
[02:57] profoundly important absolutely i
[02:58] completely agree you know in the wake of
[03:00] covet i write some freedoms have been
[03:01] trampled on and infringed across the
[03:03] country by radical liberals and power
[03:05] you know what is your reaction to some
[03:07] of the latest vaccine mandates around
[03:08] the country especially for some people
[03:10] who are at risk of losing their jobs and
[03:12] livelihoods and for some students on
[03:14] college campuses who are at risk of
[03:16] being punished or kicked out of their
[03:17] college for not even taking the vaccine
[03:19] yeah i mean no one should be um no one
[03:21] should be forced to take a vaccine
[03:22] against their will it's happening all
[03:24] across the country at a rapid pace and a
[03:26] disturbing pace um and yeah i mean
[03:29] especially young people that are very
[03:31] minimal and
[03:33] insignificant risk of dying from the
[03:36] fauchi virus why should we have to
[03:38] inoculate them against their will and
[03:40] yeah i mean i'm seeing true courage from
[03:42] people all across the country that are
[03:44] rising up and they're starting to say i
[03:48] am
[03:48] prioritizing
[03:50] you know a moral good over my paycheck
[03:54] that's a profound thing it's a powerful
[03:55] thing too um and
[03:58] i think that those people are heroes and
[04:00] honestly the tyrants that are pushing
[04:02] these mandates they have to be stopped
[04:04] you're exactly right you know we talked
[04:06] about this before we came on air let's
[04:07] talk about it again you know last night
[04:08] was a really good night for the
[04:10] republican party with major victories
[04:11] across the country in multiple races
[04:14] talking about one specifically here you
[04:15] know glenn young can a republican won
[04:17] the governorship in virginia a huge
[04:19] victory for the party and virginia
[04:21] obviously a state that joe biden won by
[04:23] ten points now what is your reaction to
[04:25] last night's major republican victories
[04:27] and what messages do you think this is
[04:28] sending to joe biden and other democrats
[04:30] yeah a lot of it was just kind of an
[04:31] anti-left
[04:34] anti-institutional power
[04:36] push i mean you saw this guy from new
[04:38] jersey was like my new hero
[04:40] edwin derr who's like a truck driver and
[04:43] he spent 153 dollars i don't even think
[04:45] he knew he was running for office like
[04:47] and he probably beat the machine
[04:50] politics second in command of the new
[04:52] jersey state senate that's unbelievable
[04:54] and people and this is the thing is that
[04:56] we're really dissatisfied with our
[04:58] rulers right now and we should be and
[05:00] right now the people that are running
[05:02] the country are totally disconnected
[05:04] from the people who make the country run
[05:06] and at its best a country has that in
[05:08] harmony where the people that make the
[05:10] country run feel as if the people that
[05:11] are running the country are listening to
[05:13] them or at least don't hate them
[05:15] and so here you have this
[05:17] middle class grandfather of six father
[05:20] of three eagles fan harley-davidson
[05:22] writing
[05:24] guy
[05:25] who spent 153.70
[05:28] of it at dunkin donuts
[05:29] his true story and the rest on flyers
[05:32] and yard signs and he displaced the
[05:34] second most powerful politician in one
[05:35] of the most powerful states in the
[05:36] country who does that
[05:38] well the citizenry
[05:40] 32 000 people that voted for him it's 2
[05:42] 000 vote delta between him and the
[05:44] incumbent they're really upset with
[05:46] their rulers and in south jersey these
[05:48] are the people of the truck drivers
[05:50] they're the people that work at the
[05:51] ports they're the people that are
[05:52] teachers and firefighters and police
[05:54] officers and they're fed up with this
[05:55] they're fed up with seeing their friends
[05:57] and their family members get vex and
[05:58] they have to get vaccinated against
[05:59] their will
[06:00] and you don't over complicate that and
[06:02] i've always liked the people of new
[06:04] jersey
[06:05] and i just i've never been in new jersey
[06:06] it's quite an interesting place on the
[06:08] garden state
[06:09] and
[06:10] they're tough people and
[06:12] there is kind of this thing like if we
[06:14] don't you don't you're not doing your
[06:15] job we're gonna hold you accountable
[06:17] like we're gonna take it out to the
[06:18] streets and stop it ourselves we can't
[06:19] do that in politics well it's like let's
[06:21] just go hire the truck driver right
[06:23] and what what that shows me is the same
[06:26] sort of energy that got trump elected in
[06:27] 15 and 16 is still alive
[06:29] which is that people are really upset
[06:32] at the kind of corrupt
[06:35] the baseless
[06:36] the some would say boring i would
[06:38] definitely agree with that um kind of
[06:40] mantra of america's ruling class this
[06:42] guy sweeney was in office since 2004.
[06:46] he
[06:49] there you go i was 11 in 2004 and so
[06:52] in 2004 he got elected and he's been a
[06:54] machine politician who basically runs
[06:56] the whole state
[06:58] and you just have a truck driver spend
[07:00] 153 dollars
[07:02] and beat him it's unbelievable
[07:05] in a deep blue area and so yeah there's
[07:07] something special going on in this
[07:09] country and every commentator is getting
[07:10] it wrong on television everyone except
[07:12] tucker is going to get it right i know
[07:14] it
[07:15] he's texting the tucker today about this
[07:16] which everyone's like oh it's because
[07:18] junkin was a super moderator it has
[07:19] nothing to do with that okay it's that
[07:21] there is this continuation of a
[07:23] awakening of the population to retake
[07:27] its role as a citizen not a subject
[07:30] right and it's a powerful thing that's
[07:32] how you get truck drivers who can win
[07:33] elections by spending 153
[07:35] and guess what for every person in power
[07:37] that should terrify you
[07:39] because the people are common only in
[07:41] america is a story like that austin only
[07:43] in america uh you know there's been a
[07:45] lot of talk about the future of the
[07:46] republican party going on in terms of
[07:48] 2022 and the presidential race obviously
[07:50] in 24. um what do you think republicans
[07:52] need to do to win back the house and
[07:53] senate in 2022 take back the white house
[07:55] in 2010 yes so
[07:57] you know we're on tour here for turning
[07:58] point usa so anything i say is in my
[08:00] personal capacity politically um i can
[08:02] talk about you they shouldn't do some
[08:05] completely unwise person for the house
[08:07] republicans tweeted this picture of
[08:09] terry mcauliffe and they say the
[08:11] election in virginia shows that
[08:12] americans don't want socialism like
[08:14] that's not what the election was about
[08:15] at all okay like no the election was
[08:18] about
[08:19] critical race theory the election was
[08:20] about diversity equity inclusion about
[08:22] representation in schools and here is
[08:24] the thing is that the caste system has
[08:26] come to america and people know it and
[08:28] it makes them super anxious they don't
[08:30] like the fact that there's an oligarchy
[08:31] that's untouchable they don't like the
[08:33] fact that terry mcauliffe gets to wine
[08:34] and dine with the clintons and the
[08:35] obamas and go to a birthday party in
[08:37] martha's vineyard without having to be
[08:38] that you know without the same sort of
[08:40] protocols and their kid has to wear a
[08:41] mask in the local loudoun county school
[08:43] and so if republicans in the senate and
[08:46] the house actually are serious about
[08:47] governing the country they would look at
[08:49] last night correctly not what their
[08:50] consultants want them to look like oh
[08:52] it's a bunch of moderates that's
[08:53] actually not true junkin started to
[08:55] actually get traction when he embraced
[08:57] the same sort of tone and tenor that
[08:59] donald trump had in 2016
[09:01] and this is a multi-racial coalition
[09:03] this is a coalition that christians are
[09:05] finally getting reactivated and retaking
[09:07] their government and so if they want to
[09:09] take back the house they have to they
[09:11] have to be a vessel for the needs wants
[09:13] concerns anxieties of a nation that kind
[09:16] of wants to send a message to the
[09:18] unelected unaccountable bureaucrats to
[09:19] fouchy
[09:20] to you know sweeney we talk about new
[09:22] jersey whoever it is it's like i hate
[09:24] that guy i don't like him because if i
[09:26] did what he did i would be fired that's
[09:28] a normal in fact a healthy process for
[09:31] the american political process to go
[09:32] through but i think i mean look it's
[09:35] republicans to lose at this point like
[09:36] last night basically sets the table
[09:38] republicans should should have an
[09:40] 80-seat majority if they do their job
[09:42] they will have an 80-seat majority
[09:44] coming in to next the next congressional
[09:47] session and the senate should have
[09:48] 55-seat majority we'll see we'll see
[09:51] we'll see it'll be an interesting racing
[09:52] v the momentum is there you know
[09:54] shifting gears here a little bit a few
[09:55] weeks ago president trump announced his
[09:57] up-and-coming launch of a new social
[09:59] media app true social which is supposed
[10:00] to drop some time this month don't have
[10:02] this specific date example is coming you
[10:03] know obviously president trump has been
[10:05] banned from all social media in america
[10:07] and you as well as thousands of
[10:09] conservatives have been censored off of
[10:10] social media platforms what do you think
[10:12] we need to be doing as conservatives to
[10:14] push back against this censorship yeah i
[10:16] mean truth social hopefully will do very
[10:17] well rumble.com is great everyone needs
[10:19] to be using rumble our umble.com they're
[10:21] phenomenal and they are skyrocketing i
[10:24] mean i i don't think we should stop
[10:25] using facebook twitter or youtube um i
[10:27] think we should stay here as long as we
[10:29] can uh lekwalessa had a phenomenal quote
[10:32] when he uh effectively um pushed back
[10:35] against the soviet union in poland he
[10:37] said we've had we have enough martyrs
[10:39] yeah he said we don't need more martyrs
[10:40] like stacking martyrs a mile high has
[10:42] done us no good he said instead we need
[10:44] deliberate small pieces of collectivized
[10:46] action and he was right so what drives
[10:49] me nuts is when people know that and
[10:51] this is there's two different things
[10:52] there's two different types of
[10:53] censorship there's people that get
[10:54] censored because they do nothing wrong
[10:55] these people get censored that know the
[10:57] rules and they intentionally break the
[10:59] rules the rules are dumb okay they're
[11:00] awful we're going to fix it by other
[11:01] platforms but then some people
[11:03] intentionally are like no no i'm going
[11:04] to post this to stick it to zuckerberg
[11:06] and i'm going to be a murderer and they
[11:07] get their 30 minutes of fame and it's
[11:09] like okay well you don't have access to
[11:10] your facebook that's really stupid right
[11:12] and now people say oh charlie what are
[11:13] you going to conform to their tyranny
[11:14] well in the facebook platform
[11:17] that that's one thing i don't think it's
[11:18] a good thing of all of a sudden i don't
[11:19] have access to my 2.4 million people but
[11:22] with that being said i'm going to try to
[11:24] do just as much if not more posting on
[11:26] rumble and try to weaken facebook in
[11:28] that way if that makes sense and some
[11:29] people say well charlie if we all left
[11:31] facebook they'd have no power this is
[11:32] not true it isn't it's like first of all
[11:34] you're not going to get 200 million
[11:36] people to stop using facebook tomorrow
[11:37] it's going to happen over time as you
[11:39] have competitors we should have broken
[11:40] them up and do all these sorts of things
[11:41] and tax them and penalize them but yeah
[11:44] i just i don't think the intentional
[11:46] martyr thing is helping us in any way
[11:49] you know wrapping things up here um you
[11:50] know i have young conservatives reach
[11:52] out to me message out you know every
[11:54] single day sharing how they want to be
[11:56] involved um asking how they can help
[11:58] what is your message to young americans
[11:59] across the country who are interested in
[12:01] getting involved and being part of a
[12:03] movement to stand up and speak out with
[12:04] them get involved with turning point usa
[12:07] tpusa.com and come to america
[12:08] americafest tpusa.com
[12:11] amfest and just be the same person in
[12:13] public that you are in private speak out
[12:15] you know let your mind be heard it's
[12:17] super important and um it's our country
[12:20] now it's going to be it's our generation
[12:22] it's going to be the generation that
[12:23] wasn't born in 2004 which is crazy
[12:25] that's gonna be in charge right
[12:27] and
[12:28] that's that's a new development right
[12:31] where before it was kind of just like
[12:32] one a couple generations ruling
[12:34] everything but americans i think want
[12:36] fresh ideas they want new leadership
[12:38] they want boldness they want courage and
[12:40] i'm not actually i'm not really big into
[12:42] the generation bashing i i think that
[12:43] there's a lot of young people with great
[12:45] ideas i think there's a lot of people
[12:46] that aren't young that have great ideas
[12:47] you know what i mean like whatever it is
[12:49] it matters how courageous and strong you
[12:50] are i don't think just because you're a
[12:51] young person you'll be a better
[12:52] representative or whatever i do think we
[12:54] need more young blood for sure but yeah
[12:56] if you're young just speak out organize
[12:58] and let your voice be heard well thank
