Honoring Charlie Kirk's Legacy Through Action: Pastor's Message on Faith, Politics, and Spiritual Warfare
A pastor reflects on the profound impact of Charlie Kirk's death and what it means for Christians moving forward. Drawing parallels between Kirk's assassination and the beheading of John the Baptist, this message challenges believers to channel grief into action by living out their faith boldly. The pastor emphasizes that Kirk's greatest legacy wasn't just his political commentary, but his ability to let Christianity dictate his political positions, making him the brains of the conservative movement who spoke truth without fear.
Charlie Kirk was an amazing man. For the last three years, listening to him, I don't remember ever hearing anything that he said that I would literally disagree with. He was number one a Christian, a godly man. He was a husband, a godly husband, an example of how to be a husband. He was a godly father. His views on parenting were truly amazing and accurate biblically.
His death impacted me very similarly to the way that Chris Kyle's death impacted me several years ago. This is one of those things where you hear about people dying, you hear about people even getting killed. This was different. It affected people differently, affected me differently. This is one of those things where just like with Chris Kyle, you just say this shouldn't have happened.
Charlie Kirk: The Brains of the Conservative Movement
There's a lot of very smart people in the conservative branch of politics, even specifically in the Republican party. But I will tell you, Charlie was the brains of the conservative movement. I pray to God that now God will raise up others very similar to him in their intelligence, but also in their courage and in their ability to really relay in simple principled terms the principles of Christianity.
There's a lot of people that are either preachers or politicians. What made Charlie stand out was the fact that he was able to live his Christianity and apply it to his political positions. He literally let his Christianity form and dictate his political positions.
Setting the Record Straight About Church Responses
There are people that have been saying, "Oh, if your church hasn't mentioned Charlie literally on the first Sunday after his assassination, then you should leave that church." That is wrong. People don't always realize what goes on and the process of being able to address these things that sometimes it does take some time.
As a matter of fact, myself, I was on the road heading to Colorado whenever we heard the news alerts that Charlie had been shot and then later that he had died. So, I was not able to be at my church on that Sunday to mention this. You don't leave a church because they don't mention someone. That is not even the way Charlie would operate. I think we need to honor Charlie obviously. At the same time, we also need to recognize that our faith in Christ should make us stable and not quick to move on something that we don't have all the details with.
Living Your Beliefs, Not Just Knowing Them
The one thing that stood out to me about Charlie was he didn't say just know this, have this information, believe this. He said, "You have to live your beliefs." The real truth is people do live their beliefs. If you're not living the way that you think you should, you're not living your beliefs. So you should be living out what you believe and you do live it out. If you're not living it out, it's maybe because you don't believe it strong enough.
Your knowledge of Christ, your relationship with him, there should be no question that your relationship and your knowledge of him should lead you to live a life of action, putting into practice the principles of the word of God.
The Character of a Movement
It is obvious that there's a difference in how people respond when someone like Charlie is killed by having prayer vigils and peaceful gatherings as opposed to what happened when you have a George Floyd or something like that where there's rioting and burning. It shows the difference of the mental and spiritual state of the people that follow these different personalities. Charlie said at one point that you can tell the character of a man by who his enemies are.
Yes, the assassin and/or assassins of Charlie Kirk should pay the full price for what they did. And at the same time, we have to realize that Charlie Kirk's death didn't stop things. As you can see, it's actually starting things, but we have to remain focused on what we as Christians are supposed to be doing.
The Example of Jesus After John the Baptist's Death
In Matthew chapter 14 and in Luke chapter 9, we see how Jesus responded to a similar situation when Herod beheaded John the Baptist. John the Baptist was a preacher. He was a prophet. But he didn't stick to preaching Bible as far as scripture and stay out of politics. He got involved in politics. His religious beliefs pushed him and caused him to have to speak up about a political situation which was Herod's marriage to his brother Philip's wife. John the Baptist got involved in politics. That was the legal system of the time. The law of Moses was the legal system. It was the political system even in the Jewish community.
John the Baptist being a preacher preached against what Herod had done. And Herod had him killed, had him beheaded. Jesus was John the Baptist's cousin, six months younger than John the Baptist. So obviously when John the Baptist was murdered by Herod, there would be emotions in Jesus about that. That was his cousin. That was the person that knew who he really was and knew what he was there to do.
Yet notice Jesus didn't rise up and kill Herod. He didn't even go to John and put his head back on and bring him back to life. What did he do? Jesus believed the scripture because he was the scripture personified. What does the scripture tell us to do? The scripture is very plain that we do not return evil for evil. The scripture tells us very plainly that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, not against Herod or the people that killed Charlie, but we wrestle against spiritual forces. You can find this in Ephesians chapter 6.
The Real Battle: Spiritual Warfare
There is a war between good and evil. Our representatives in government cannot legislate morality. They keep making more and more rules thinking people will just line up. And all they're doing is in many cases creating more criminals because people don't line up with the laws they put out. You cannot legislate morality. The church has to wake up and win the souls, the minds, the spirits of people that are opposed to the gospel. Our job is to preach the gospel. Our job is to make disciples. Our job is not to come against people.
There's these words being thrown around about it being Islamophobic, xenophobic, transphobic. None of those apply to me. Why? Because I'm not afraid. I'm not phobic of anything. I am anti-evil, and I am pro-righteousness. My job is to help equip people to live the gospel.
Jesus's Response: Healing and Feeding
Matthew 14:10 says, "And he sent and beheaded John in the prison, and his head was brought in a charger and given to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother. And his disciples came and took up the body and buried it, and went and told Jesus. When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart."
There's a time for grieving. It's one of the reasons why I haven't come out earlier. There's two things I have to know. God, do you want me to address this? And number two, if so, how do you want me to address it? That's why it took me about a week to come together praying and saying, God, what do you want me to do?
Jesus went into a desert place apart. And when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. And Jesus went forth and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. Jesus didn't go into Jerusalem or anywhere else preaching against Herod's politics or his practices. Instead, Jesus went out and hit the devil, who was behind Herod's killing of John the Baptist. He went out and hit the devil where he knew it would hurt him the most. He went out and fed the hungry, and he went out and healed the sick. Those were aggressive tactics by Jesus to fight against the kingdom of darkness.
How to Honor Charlie Kirk's Memory
We have been training people for 25 years. This year we have millions of people around the world that we have trained either personally or by video. We get testimonies from all over the world. We have been training people how to do the works of Jesus to counteract and to attack the kingdom of darkness.
If you're grieving over Charlie Kirk, you cannot honor him in a better way than to live your faith. Be vocal about your faith, which should influence your politics. And as you go out and then you hit the dark kingdom with the power of God and you heal the sick, you raise the dead, you cast out devils, you do the works of Jesus, you live the gospel that Jesus died to give us. That will honor Charlie Kirk more than anything else you can literally do.
Should you rise up and speak about politics? Absolutely. Your voice should be heard. We have that right and the Bible is not against that. But you have to realize that first and foremost, we cannot get angry and upset and hate people. We've got to be angry at what God is angry at. And he is angry at the devil and his works. And he wants us to finish undoing the works of the devil by doing the works of Jesus.
Channel Grief Into Action
Please channel that anger, channel that feeling of grief and turn it to good. I had to do this 40 some odd years ago when my daughter died and I channeled it and I got mad at the devil and I went out and started practicing laying hands on the sick. Practice what you believe. That will honor Charlie more than anything else. But more importantly than that, it honors the Lord and Savior that Charlie also honored by his life.
It's time to rise up. It's time to be the people of God, to be vocal, no matter what it cost us. Charlie paid with his life. Some of us may pay with ours, but we have to be able to speak what is true, what is righteous, and not be afraid to open our voices and not give in to the cancel culture and not be angry at people, but do what you're supposed to be doing. Stay focused on the job at hand.
A Global Awakening
There is a great revival going on all over the world right now. Millions are being swept into the kingdom of God right now. To me, that's saying that something is up that in the very near future, something else may be happening and people may not have that chance to turn to Christ. So don't wait if you're listening to me and maybe you're non-Christian, maybe you've been more political. I'm saying right now you heard Charlie. Charlie was able to speak with boldness, with fearlessness, with truth because he knew his savior.
That same savior right now will accept you if you will turn from your sin. Come to him, accept him as your substitute that he died for you and make him your Lord and then do what he tells you to do.
Charlie's Simple Advice
I saw a video recently of Charlie where he was telling a 12-year-old little boy, and the little boy said, "What advice can you give me for my life?" And Charlie said three things. He said, "Read the Bible." Then he said, "Do what the Bible teaches you to do." And third, tell others what the Bible says. Most preachers can't even get it that simple.
That's what I'm asking you to do today. Honor Charlie's memory. Read the Bible. Do the Bible. Tell others what the Bible says. We're praying for Charlie's wife, Erika. We're praying for his family, his children. Please also join prayers for that family. They have suffered a great loss.
