Jack Posobiec and Tyler Bowyer Reflect on Charlie Kirk's Assassination and Its Impact on American Politics
Jack Posobiec and Tyler Bowyer sit down for an emotional interview following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, discussing the massive outpouring of grief, prayer vigils across America, and how Democrats are switching parties in response. They explore Charlie Kirk's unprecedented influence on American politics, his faith-driven approach to cultural change, and the controversy surrounding Jimmy Kimmel's suspension. The conversation reveals how Charlie's death has become a potential inflection point in American history, with packed church pews and peaceful prayer gatherings replacing the typical political response.
In a somber interview, Jack Posobiec, Turning Point USA contributor and host of Human Events Daily, and Tyler Bowyer, Turning Point Action's Chief Operating Officer, discuss the profound impact of Charlie Kirk's assassination on American politics and culture. Tyler, who is now organizing the funeral where President Trump, Vice President, and Secretary of State are among the speakers, reflects on the unexpected scale of the response.
"We felt the influence for sure," Tyler explains. "Everything that we've worked for and built, this is one of the largest political operations that the country's ever seen, certainly in modern American history. I think what's been a surprise is the external the externality of everything. How many foreign countries have paid respects to Charlie? That's been a surprise I think for all of us."
Perhaps most striking is the political shift occurring in real time. "We've received significant return from many Democrats saying hey I'm switching parties or I'm switching independent. I don't like what I'm seeing," Tyler notes. "That again that speaks to Charlie and as you said he was a man who never went after people in a derogatory way."
A Different Kind of Inflection Point
Jack Posobiec, drawing on his background as an intelligence officer in the military, addresses the comparison to other moments of national crisis. "When you look at one of these things, it's tempting to want to try to make pronouncements and predictions as to what's going to come next. But, you know, I don't think that anyone would have predicted that four years after George Floyd that Donald Trump would be getting reelected as president."
However, Jack identifies a crucial difference between this moment and previous flashpoints in American history. "There have been no riots that's a significant difference. There have been prayer groups in this case," he observes. "I have a hope. And I would say my hope is that as horrific as this violence was and this just unspeakable evil, just look behind us right these this incredible vigil where people come together it's peaceful it's prayerful."
The spiritual response has been unprecedented. "Every church in this country and just here as well as Phoenix but even back home back east people were saying it's the pews are packed like it was Easter Sunday," Jack reports. "I hope that if anything as Charlie would have wanted that there's a positive response that comes out. People opening Bibles again, going to church again, even if they don't know what to do, you know, you just go."
Understanding Charlie Kirk's True Power
The interview reveals that Charlie Kirk's influence extended far beyond what many realized. "There is no person in America more politically powerful than Charlie Kirk other than Donald Trump," the interviewer states. "By far the most influential non-political leader we've seen in modern politics in the past 30, 40 years. Way more impactful than a Jerry Falwell or anybody like that."
Jack Posobiec elaborates: "Republicans had a huge victory. President Trump wins, House, Senate, all the swing states. Outside of Trump himself, the only person that you could say who had the biggest influence on that was Charlie Kirk and the work that he and Tyler with Turning Point Action did across the country."
Faith as the Foundation
Tyler Bowyer reveals what many may not have fully understood about Charlie Kirk's approach. "What people are realizing now is the undertone that Charlie Kirk produced was actually really the overtone. It was the leading factor. We talk all the time about the Charlie thought process, which is that politics is downstream from culture."
He connects this to Charlie's philosophical lineage. "Andrew Breitbart, he was a student of Andrew Breitbart. He loved Andrew Breitbart and so that helped motivate him to get into politics."
The interviewer synthesizes this philosophy: "So Breitbart was politics is downstream from culture. If you add Charlie's piece, it's that culture is downstream from faith."
"Excellent analysis," Tyler confirms. "That's why he led so strongly with his faith."
The Jimmy Kimmel Controversy
The conversation turns to the suspension or firing of Jimmy Kimmel, which has created division even within Republican ranks. Senator Ted Cruz voiced concerns: "What he said there is dangerous as hell. That's right out of a mafioso. That might feel good right now to threaten Jimmy Kimmel, but when it is used to silence every conservative in America, we will regret it."
Jack Posobiec acknowledges the complexity: "Look, if you're going to wield power and do so in a correct manner, you need to understand what the after effects are going to be. But at the same time, I hear this a lot of time from conservatives who say, 'Well, what if the left were to cancel conservatives?' And they've been doing that for a decade."
Tyler Bowyer draws a distinction between the two approaches. "There's a massive difference here which is that the left was attacking the individual. The left was trying to take out people like Charlie Kirk, trying to sideline Charlie Kirk, demonize him by name. Charlie, as you pointed out, never demonized anyone."
He continues: "The whole purpose that Jimmy Kimmel was trying to evoke on his show was to continue to demonize conservatives who have just been murdered. To blame conservatives for murdering, blame conservatives but also put a target on conservatives and continue that narrative to do what? To actually sideline those people from conversations to set them aside."
A Shift in Republican Confidence
An AP poll reveals a notable change in Republican sentiment about America's direction. In September, after the assassination, 49% of Republicans thought the US was heading in the right direction. By early June, that number had jumped to 70%.
Jack Posobiec notes the timing: "Be interested what time of day that was taken by the way because obviously September 10th was the day Charlie was shot. So you could assume that it's taken that into account. Republicans had a huge victory, and on the heels of such a big victory, you're expecting and seeing lots of wins, things that conservatives have been fighting for for so long, and then suddenly to have one of your leading voices, your literal leading voice for youth and for so many people around the country just so suddenly and viciously ripped out. It does feel kind of like the bottom just falls out."
The Democrat Response
One particularly painful aspect for those who knew Charlie Kirk has been the response from some Democratic leaders. Tyler addresses this directly: "Many Democrats did that and many people that hold positions of authority that are not our friends were the ones that spoke up. Barack Obama, arguably the leader of the Democrat party, brings up Charlie's name and he's talking about my friend who just got killed and the very next breath he's criticizing him and demonizing and he's like, why do you have to do that?"
Honoring a Legacy
The interview concludes with recognition of the work Jack Posobiec and Tyler Bowyer have undertaken in the wake of their friend's death. As they prepare for a funeral that will include the highest levels of American government, they continue to fight in the respectful, fact-based manner that Charlie Kirk exemplified throughout his life—a man who, as everyone who knew him emphasized, never went after people in a derogatory way but instead used his intelligence and command of facts to advance his arguments.
