Josh Hawley Reveals What Senate Found on Fauci's Phone After Contempt Referral

Josh Hawley joins Jesse Watters to discuss the Senate's contempt referral against Anthony Fauci, who invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times despite holding a presidential pardon. Hawley reveals the Senate now possesses Fauci's government phone and is downloading its contents, which could expose illegal cash prizes worth over a million dollars during COVID-19. With 17 states investigating and Florida issuing subpoenas, the senator explains why Fauci's pardon doesn't protect him from state charges or obstruction. The conversation covers Fauci's $12 million net worth, half-million-dollar annual pension, and the closing legal walls around the former NIAID director.

Senate Takes Possession of Fauci's Government Phone

Ron Johnson obtained Anthony Fauci's cell phone, containing every text, email, video, voicemail, and communication from his time as director of NIAID. The Senate is currently downloading the phone's contents, which could reveal critical information about Fauci's activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite Fauci's presidential pardon, which only covers federal prosecutions, 17 states are now investigating potential state-level charges. Florida has already issued a subpoena, following the money trail related to book deals, awards, and grants Fauci received while implementing pandemic policies he allegedly knew were ineffective.

Contempt Referral Sent to Department of Justice

Rand Paul's committee voted to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress for stonewalling the Senate. Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment over 100 times during testimony. However, legal experts point out that once someone receives a pardon, the Fifth Amendment no longer applies because they cannot be charged for those crimes.

Rand Paul explained the legal situation: "As far as pleading the fifth when you have a pardon, all you have to do is tell the truth. Just not commit a new crime. But if we were to grant him immunity from telling the truth, of what value would his testimony be? So, I think the American people do deserve to know this."

The contempt referral went directly to the DOJ's DC division. If convicted, Fauci faces fines and up to one year in prison. While Democrats argue the Fifth Amendment still protects him, CNN acknowledged the serious legal jeopardy: "This is real. The stakes here for Dr. Fauci could potentially be, depending what DOJ decides, a criminal indictment and prosecution."

Illegal Cash Prizes During COVID-19

Josh Hawley revealed that Fauci received over a million dollars in cash prizes during approximately two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal law prohibits government employees from soliciting cash prizes or using their office, email, or employees for such purposes.

Hawley stated: "The law prohibits a federal employee from soliciting cash prizes. It says you can't go use your employees to solicit cash prizes. You can't use your office, your email. Fauci was doing all of it. Was he even focused on COVID during COVID? No way. He was focused on himself. He was focused on getting rich."

Florida's Attorney General is specifically investigating these awards, as Fauci collected cash while implementing shutdown orders in Florida and other states, despite allegedly knowing the regulations were not based on sound science.

Fauci's Financial Situation

Anthony Fauci was the highest-paid federal employee in government history, earning more than the president. His current financial status includes:

  • Net worth exceeding $12 million
  • Annual government pension of $500,000
  • $2.5 million home in Georgetown, Washington DC
  • Over $1 million in cash prizes received during COVID-19

Hawley emphasized the disparity: "He's the highest-paid federal employee ever. His pension is worth half a million a year. Net worth right now, north of 12 million. It's a total scam."

Public Reaction and Media Encounter

Fauci was photographed taking out trash at his Georgetown home before speeding away with his wife driving. When reporters approached, his wife removed one hand from the steering wheel to give them the middle finger.

The incident resonated with Americans who suffered consequences from pandemic policies. One person shared: "We were told, 'Hey, you ain't going to get COVID if you do that.' And I got COVID. And dammit it almost killed me."

Hawley responded to the gesture: "Not a good look flipping the bird to the press. No, but that's basically what he did to the whole country right there, Jesse. He did it last week when he showed up claimed the fifth 111 times."

Birth Tourism Executive Order

During the same interview, discussion turned to President Trump's new executive order targeting birth tourism. Trump explained: "The idea that people come here pretending to be a tourist, but the real reason they're here is to have a child, to make that child into automatic citizen, leave our country, and then have a US citizen child, it gives them access under this broken system to welfare benefits, ultimately to the voting booth, and all the other rights and privileges that belong solely to Americans. So, that practice of birth tourism is, as of the signing of this order, hereby banned."

While birth tourism was already illegal, the new executive order strengthens enforcement mechanisms. Hawley supported the action: "It's going to put teeth into it, and I'm glad he's doing it, Jesse. We need to put a stop to this. This is not what the Constitution permits."

The senator referenced Justice Clarence Thomas's analysis of the constitutional history: "Justice Thomas I thought made this point very powerfully in that Supreme Court case. He recounted the history, the Civil War history, the reconstructionary history of these amendments. This is not what those amendments were written to address, not even close. This is a huge abuse of our system."

Looking Ahead

The Senate continues downloading Fauci's phone contents while multiple state investigations proceed. The contempt referral now sits with the Department of Justice, awaiting potential grand jury action. Meanwhile, Democrats continue pushing to expand the Supreme Court in response to recent constitutional rulings.

Hawley concluded: "If you stand in their way, they will burn you to the ground, which is why we've got to defend the court, and we've got to stand up for the Constitution like the president's doing."
