Judge says Charlie Kirk's accused shooter expected to appear in-person for future court hearings

[00:00] In other news this morning, there was a

[00:01] preliminary hearing for the man accused

[00:03] of killing Charlie Kirk at UVU earlier

[00:05] this month.

[00:06] >> Yeah, KSL Sarah Martin is following the

[00:08] story for us this afternoon. Sarah, what

[00:10] happened in court today?

[00:11] >> Today, Tyler Robinson appeared in court

[00:14] via an audio feed from the Utah County

[00:16] Jail that's down in Spanish Fork for

[00:18] what's called a waiver hearing. We

[00:20] didn't see or hear Robinson today, but

[00:22] we did hear from his defense team and

[00:24] the prosecution. Judge Tony Graph also

[00:26] took the time to set expectations in his

[00:29] courtroom. He said he expects Robinson

[00:31] to appear in person from here on out and

[00:33] that the courtroom would be a fair and

[00:35] civil place where Robinson will be able

[00:38] to work with his defense team. Defense

[00:40] attorney Katherine Netor was assigned to

[00:42] Robinson's case just last week. She told

[00:44] the court today that her team does not

[00:46] intend to wave a preliminary hearing.

[00:48] That means they do intend to pursue a

[00:50] trial instead of settling with the state

[00:52] prosecution out of court. Fourth

[00:54] District Court Judge Tony Graph told the

[00:56] court that Robinson's constitutional

[00:58] rights would be upheld during this

[01:00] process and he would be presumed

[01:02] innocent until proven guilty. He also

[01:04] said the proceedings would be open to

[01:06] the public.

[01:07] >> Neither Mr. Robinson nor the people of

[01:09] Utah deserve anything less than the fair

[01:12] and impartial administration of justice.

[01:16] >> Judge Graph set that next hearing for

[01:18] October 30th. Said he expects Robinson

[01:20] to attend in person. The prosecution has

[01:23] made it clear they will seek the death

[01:25] penalty in this case. Robinson charged

[01:27] with seven counts including aggravated

[01:29] murder and illegally discharging a
