According to Rabbi Pesach Wolicki, who was a member of the private chat group, Andrew Kolvet initially provided the screenshots. Kolvet, who served as Kirk's number two and now hosts a show, was one of nine people in the group. At first, Kolvet denied involvement, but he eventually admitted on his show that he had given the screenshots to someone in the government.
Kolvet's rationale was that he was asked about the messages by someone in government and didn't want to leave any stone unturned. They eventually pieced together that Joe Kent was the connection. Kent had a relationship with both Kirk and Kolvet, and Kirk would meet with Kent during visits to Washington DC.
