Savannah Hernandez Returns After Violent Assault by Minneapolis Mob During ICE Protest Journalism

Savannah Hernandez, a Turning Point USA frontlines journalist, shares her experience after being violently assaulted while covering an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis. The attack left her with a concussion and forced her off air for recovery time. Despite clear video evidence showing the Ashrushko family, Chris, Deanna, and daughter Paige, attacking her as she attempted to leave, no charges have been filed nearly two weeks later. The family has gone on a press tour claiming they were the real victims while posting on social media about gambling at casinos and shopping at Target, mocking law enforcement. Hernandez discusses the concerning pattern of violence against journalists in Hennepin County and why federal intervention may be necessary to ensure justice is served.

The Attack in Minneapolis

Savannah Hernandez joined the show to discuss the violent assault she experienced in Hennepin County while working as a frontlines journalist for Turning Point USA. After taking time to recover from the attack, which resulted in a concussion, Hernandez was ready to share her story with the audience.

Hernandez explained that while she has been working in media for the last six years and is accustomed to volatile situations, this was one of the most violent assaults she has experienced. The injury was severe enough that she had to step back from media appearances, something unusual for someone who typically pushes through difficult situations to get on air.

The incident occurred at a national protest against ICE in Minneapolis. Hernandez had been covering illegal immigration extensively for the last four years and decided to visit the scene at the Whipple Ice Building to observe the protest and gauge where demonstrators were at in their efforts. She was there to conduct what she describes as point-and-shoot observational journalism, a method she uses specifically because left-wing protesters are often violent.

How the Violence Began

Despite her cautious approach, Hernandez was still violently assaulted after being identified as a journalist who works for Turning Point USA. The attack was initiated by William Scott Kelly, the same protester who was previously arrested for storming a church in Minneapolis and shutting down an entire church service, resulting in children crying in fear.

Kelly approached Hernandez and began badgering her with hostile questions. She attempted to diffuse the situation by engaging in journalism, asking him about why he was there, why the protest was important to him, and how long they had been protesting. None of it mattered. The left-wing mob had become extremely radicalized and violent, and they were trying to twist her words. They were angry that she was even present and told her to get out.

Hernandez responded that she didn't have to leave because she was on a public street and had a right to be there. At that point, she was getting mobbed. She walked over to a portion of the fence hoping police would see her and the situation that was unfolding, because trying to walk through a mob where everyone is surrounding you screaming and clearly wanting to hurt you is not the best idea.

The Ostroushko Family Attack

The police never came to diffuse the situation, so Hernandez decided she would have to walk out on her own. That's when the Ostroushko family—Diana, Chris, and Paige—committed what Hernandez describes as a very violent assault. Other unnamed defendants were also involved, swinging sex toys in her face and hitting her with them.

Chris and Paige initially came up to her, body checking her and screaming violently. Hernandez tried to walk away from them. Video footage caught Chris on camera instructing his daughter Paige to come up to Hernandez and blow a whistle in her ear. As Hernandez tried to leave, Paige slammed her to the ground.

After getting up, Hernandez had her arm out to try to diffuse the situation even more, knowing she was outnumbered and not there to fight. Paige threw punches. Her mom Deanna then came up from behind, accusing Hernandez of hitting her daughter. As Hernandez continued trying to leave, Chris—a man about three times her size—came up behind her and slammed her to the ground.

When Hernandez got up, the first thing she saw was Paige in front of her again. She realized these people were clearly not going to let her leave. As she tried to push her way out of the situation, Deanna and Paige tackled her again.

The Victim Tour

The entire Ostroushko family has continued to state that Hernandez was the aggressor the entire time. Chris claims he was protecting his family because Hernandez was allegedly a violent safety threat to them as she was trying to leave. The family has gone on an entire press tour, which is one reason it took Hernandez time to come back on air—she didn't want to keep reliving the trauma, but felt compelled to because the attackers aren't in jail.

The family is actually on social media bragging about being free and enjoying the casino and going to Target. Paige Ostroushko posted on social media: "So unbothered that I went from being assaulted by and the police to doxxed and trending on Twitter for a week being sent threats constantly rumors of my arrest to gambling at the casino free lol."

The brazeness and audacity to claim they were assaulted when video footage clearly shows Hernandez trying to get away while being consistently attacked is striking. The family appears to be banking on liberal judges and liberal prosecutors in Hennepin County.

No Charges Filed

It has been almost two weeks since the clear attack happened on camera in 4K Ultra HD. The case is cut and dry, yet there has been no public statement from the county district attorney's office. Hernandez has spoken to them on a personal level and they told her they'll have more information within the week, but there has been no real statement. The attackers are still free.

Instead of sitting in jail after assaulting somebody who was doing nothing to them, the Ostroushko family is on a press tour claiming they are not violent and that they are the real victims. Chris appeared in an interview saying: "Maybe you guys do get doxxed, but I don't know if you guys are getting the same type of stuff that we're getting and it's non-stop. It's hundreds of phone calls a day. It's text messages and them trying to get into all of our social media accounts and contacting our friends, our neighbors, our family. It's a little overwhelming and makes me second guess even living in this country to be honest with you."

The family legitimately thought they could assault a woman on camera and people would be on their side. Hernandez cycles through phases of being very angry and then laughing because the situation seems so absurd. If anything, it has reinstilled her hope in America because everyone can agree that assaulting women is wrong. Even left-wing streamers who were there and hate Hernandez put out statements saying they hate everything she stands for, but she wasn't doing anything and they probably shouldn't put their hands on women.

Evidence From the Scene

Left-wing streamers who were present caught Chris on camera instructing his daughter to assault Hernandez. They also caught Deanna after Hernandez had left the scene, admitting to tackling her to the ground and admitting that she ran away before police could get her. As of the time of the interview, there have been no charges referred for Deanna. Only misdemeanor charges were referred by the sheriff's department for Chris and Paige.

After Hernandez posted social media clips of the family bragging about walking free, both Paige and her father made their social media accounts private. They apparently realized that going on a press tour and gloating about not being held responsible is a bad look.

A Pattern of Violence in Hennepin County

What's particularly frustrating for Hernandez is that it shouldn't take somebody going viral for justice to be served. Hennepin County has been allowing this type of activity to take place for so long that protesters think it's their right to assault people they don't like or disagree with. Hernandez is one of many people this has happened to in Minneapolis and Minnesota over just the last six months because this is what the district attorney's office allows.

The situation represents what some describe as anarcho-tyranny—where the letter of the law is enforced to the most exacting extent if it's a conservative, but if it's someone on the left or something they agree with, everything slides and gets swept under the rug. The entitlement displayed by the Ostroushko family, with Chris pouting about being doxxed on the internet, shows they really think it's just their day at the races where they can go out and shove people and punch people like it's going to church for them.

The Need for Federal Action

These are lawless outposts right here in the United States of America. The situation traces back to local law enforcement that allowed protesters in the Minneapolis area to get out of control in the first place. They wanted to see Minneapolis explode into a war zone and they got what they wanted, even if it cost them casualties like Alex Prey, who kicked a car and was antagonizing ICE agents and law enforcement officers.

The protesters won the PR battle, so to hell with law and order—chaos rules supreme. Federal action is necessary on this case to send a message. Beyond Hernandez being assaulted, beyond her concussion and emotional trauma, there's a bigger principle at stake. A message must be sent to vigilantes and the left's foot soldiers that this behavior is not okay. Law and justice will come for them. They will serve time and be held accountable.
