Gen Z Voters: Charlie Kirk on the Youth Vote Shift

Gen Z voters were central to Charlie Kirk's political strategy and to his own account of Donald Trump's 2024 victory. Kirk cited polling showing Trump held a 19-point favorability advantage among 18-to-29-year-olds and credited Turning Point USA's decade-long voter registration efforts with shifting youth votes roughly nine points toward Republicans compared to prior cycles. JD Vance, speaking at High Point University during the campaign, told Gen Z voters they had the most to gain or lose from the election's outcome, framing homeownership and long-term economic security as the issues most likely to move younger voters regardless of party affiliation. Kirk separately highlighted Trump's TikTok strategy, noting a single video reaching 65 million views largely among under-30 users, as evidence that bypassing traditional media allowed the campaign to reach younger, persuadable voters directly. Brandon Tatum discussed emerging data suggesting Gen Z men in particular were shifting toward Republicans at rates of 60 to 70 percent, tying the trend to broader cultural debates around masculinity. Not every exchange favored Kirk's framing: one 18-year-old first-time voter from an immigrant family pushed back directly on Trump's immigration rhetoric during a recorded debate, illustrating that the generational shift Kirk described was not uniform across all young voters.
