Charlie Kirk Calls Pro-Life Movement to Stay Engaged in Politics After Trump's Return to Office
Charlie Kirk delivers a message to pro-life activists at a conference, emphasizing the importance of political engagement alongside grassroots activism. With the Trump administration back in power, Kirk highlights recent pro-life victories including pardons for face act prisoners, reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy, and new protections for campus free speech. He argues that while sidewalk ministries and pregnancy resource centers remain the backbone of the movement, pro-life advocates must also stay involved in politics to protect their rights and advance their cause. Kirk warns that without political engagement, pro-life activism could face the same fate as movements in the United Kingdom and France, where it has been effectively outlawed.
Celebrating Pro-Life Victories Under the New Administration
Charlie Kirk opened his remarks by acknowledging the work of Kristen and celebrating what he called a major week for America. He emphasized that the country is back on track with an administration that believes in borders, defends the unborn, and champions liberty and freedom. Kirk directed his message specifically to those who fought for President Trump on college campuses, telling them this victory belongs to them.
Kirk outlined several immediate pro-life victories under the Trump administration. President Trump and Vice President JD Vance signed pardons for those imprisoned under the face act during the Biden-Harris administration, whom Kirk referred to as political prisoners. The Mexico City Policy has been reinstated, and the Department of Justice is positioned to support pro-life advocates on campuses. Kirk also noted that the abortion on demand website on Health and Human Services was taken down on the first day, and the White House now recognizes only male and female as the two sexes.
New Federal Protections for Campus Free Speech
Kirk announced that a new sheriff is in town at the Department of Education and Department of Justice. He explained that if pro-life students face interference with their civil rights on campus while advocating for life, hotlines will be established with the federal government to fight for their free speech rights. If campus administrations fail to protect students' First Amendment rights when they set up tables or engage in pro-life advocacy, Kirk suggested that federal funding should be cut from those institutions.
This represents a significant shift in federal support for pro-life campus activism, giving students a direct line to government protection when their rights are threatened.
The Critical Importance of Political Engagement
Kirk delivered what he called his most important piece of feedback to the pro-life movement: stay involved in politics. He acknowledged that it's tempting for some to view politics as dirty or compromising to their purity, but he emphasized he's not asking anyone to compromise their values. He pointed out that without control of the White House, the face act prisoners would still be facing multiple years in prison for praying outside abortion clinics, and the Mexico City Policy would still be in effect.
Kirk argued that politics is the highest form of community because it combines morality and sociability. He warned that if pro-life advocates don't get involved in politics, politics will get involved with them. The Democrat Party, he said, wants to eliminate and criminalize pro-life activism.
Lessons from International Pro-Life Movements
Kirk cautioned against complacency by pointing to the fate of pro-life movements in other countries. He asked where the pro-life movement is in the United Kingdom and France, answering that it's non-existent and gone. Those countries have basically and effectively outlawed pro-life activism, and it has retreated as a result.
America, Kirk emphasized, is the center of the planet for pro-life activism. This makes political engagement even more critical to preserve that position and prevent the same fate that befell European movements.
Incrementalism and Long-Term Strategy
Kirk explained that while politics should not be the primary concern of pro-life activists, it cannot be ignored. He called for an incrementalist approach, acknowledging that this is a fight that will take 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, or even 40 years. He told the audience they are the pro-life generation and must be prepared for this long-term battle.
The pro-life movement won't win every referendum, ballot measure, or local contest, Kirk admitted. But by staying involved, taking over state parties, and holding leaders accountable, the movement can see legislative progress come to fruition. He noted that the untapped political potential of the pro-life movement is unbelievable.
Fighting to Keep Life in the Republican Platform
Kirk addressed concerns that some in the Republican Party want abortion removed from the party platform and no longer mentioned. He made clear that not only should it be mentioned, but if the party doesn't fight for life, then what good is politics? If the party won't fight for the unborn, what good are corporate tax cuts?
However, Kirk said he needs the pro-life activists in the room to back him up when he makes these arguments. Some leaders ask where the pro-life warriors are, and Kirk called for more activists to serve as infantry in the political fight.
A Message to Campus Activists
Kirk addressed those who engage in sidewalk ministries and run pregnancy resource centers, calling them the backbone of the pro-life movement. He asked them to dedicate just a little bit of energy—not a majority, but more than before—to the political arena. As someone who focuses on political activism, Kirk said if pro-life advocates show up, reinforce the arguments being made, hold elected leaders accountable, and combine forces, they can stop funding for Planned Parenthood and encourage President Trump as the most pro-life president in American history.
Kirk acknowledged that his life would be easier if he were indifferent on the abortion topic when debating students on campuses, but he emphasized that's not why anyone is involved in this fight. They serve a God and are not him, and all are made in the image of that Creator.
The Fight Is Just Beginning
Kirk directly challenged those who believe the fight is over because Roe versus Wade has been repealed. That reversal, he said, is the beginning of the fight, not the end. Now the movement must win referendums in states and win hearts and minds.
He encouraged campus activists to fight with joy and whimsy, to encourage fellow warriors who might be silent on campuses. With an administration that has their back and a growing majority of the country supporting them, Kirk believes that when people are presented with facts and moral clarity on abortion, the movement can win converts by the thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and millions.
Making the Moral Case
Kirk emphasized that pro-life advocates need to be willing to say things people might not have heard before and go through the apologetics of the movement. They need to explain what exactly happens when an abortion occurs and why location, size, development, or dependency don't determine human rights. Human rights don't stop just because of the location of an individual, the size of an individual, or how developed an individual is.
Only this movement and the people in the room, Kirk concluded, can bring this fight to ultimate completion. He expressed excitement about where the fight will lead and his belief that pro-life advocates are the backbone of what will be the most exciting change for years to come. He closed by thanking God for giving the country a reprieve from the Biden-Harris regime and declaring that America's best days are ahead.
