Charlie Kirk Debates Libertarian Socialist on Private Property, Soviet History, and Academic Bias at Campus Event

Charlie Kirk faces off with students at a campus event, engaging in heated exchanges about socialism, private property rights, and economic freedom. A self-described libertarian socialist defends theft of unused property while Kirk dismantles the claim that communism was never truly tried. The conversation escalates when Kirk confronts the liberal bias in academia and faces personal attacks from protesters who accuse him of being a false prophet and oppressor.

The Libertarian Socialist Who Rejects Private Property

The exchange began when a student identified as a libertarian socialist, advocating for workers controlling the means of production. When Kirk pressed for clarity, the student revealed he doesn't believe in big government—in fact, no government at all.

"So you're an anarchist," Kirk responded. The student confirmed, explaining he believes in voluntary hierarchy and democracy.

Kirk then posed a direct challenge: "What's preventing you from doing what the Amish do? Get off the grid and just go live like that right now." The student deflected, citing the difficulty of abandoning everything to start over. Kirk cut through the evasion: "So you want to tell me how to live. You're arguing for a governmental structure, a lack of one rather, so even a lack of a governmental structure will then make me live the way you want me to live."

When Kirk asked if the student was okay with him having five houses and six yachts, the answer revealed everything: "I'm not okay with you having them if you are not using them."

"So all of a sudden you're now telling me how to live my life," Kirk responded. The student persisted: "There are people that are literally starving and if you had extra houses and they literally just came and occupied the houses that you are not using, they are justified because you are being a massive [expletive] to not."

Kirk pressed further: "So if someone forcefully takes away something that is sedentary, not being used in that purpose, it is a rightful means of theft?" The student answered plainly: "Yes."

"So you don't believe in private property rights," Kirk concluded. The student confirmed he does not. Kirk's response was immediate: "So you're not a libertarian, my friend. Stop using the word because you're anything but."

Dismantling the Soviet Union Defense

The conversation shifted to historical examples of socialism. Kirk challenged the common refrain that socialism has never been properly tried: "The Soviet example was so great, why were people fleeing the Soviet Union for Western democracies and they weren't fleeing Western democracies for the Soviet Union?"

The student attempted to argue that the revolution was international but was contained within a single nation. Kirk unleashed a comprehensive rebuttal:

"It wasn't contained. You tried it in Afghanistan, you tried it in Ukraine, you tried it in Lithuania, you tried it in Latvia, you tried it in Zimbabwe, you tried it in Cuba, you tried it in Central America, you tried it all throughout the [world]. What are you talking about? You tried it on the Korean Peninsula, you tried it in Kyrgyzstan, you tried it in Pakistan, you tried it in China, you tried it in Vietnam, you tried it in Laos, you tried it in Cambodia, you tried it in Indochina. What do you mean contained?"

Liberal Bias in Academia

Another student questioned Kirk about the liberal bias in academia, asking what incentives drive professors to lean left. Kirk cited independent studies showing professors register as Democrats over Republicans at a 12-to-1 ratio.

"Because they don't have jobs at Goldman Sachs maybe," the student interjected. Kirk responded: "It's because conservatives are more likely to go make a bunch of money and liberals aren't." He continued: "Conservatives are more likely to endow their professorships, conservatives are more likely to have their names on the buildings, conservatives are more likely to create jobs."

Personal Attacks and Accusations

The tone shifted dramatically when another student approached, wearing a sign that read "Charlie Kirk threatens lives and kills." The student accused Kirk of coming from a place of privilege and being unwilling to listen to frustrated, oppressed students who are emotionally exhausted.

"What does your sign say by the way?" Kirk asked. When the student tried to continue, Kirk pointed out the contradiction: "You're saying I'm the one that's here to argue and you're wearing a sign that says Charlie Kirk threatens lives and kills, and I'm the one provoking this disagreement?"

The student claimed it was a statement, not an argument, and insisted they had been listening quietly. Kirk responded: "You accused me of wanting to argue with people and I'm saying you're the one wearing a sign accusing me of threatening lives."

Given the opportunity to speak, the student delivered a dramatic condemnation: "You use the name of God and God is not with you and you are a false prophet. To those that your influence, you are an oppressor. Your influence was meant to be destroyed and so therefore I ask everyone to fulfill their destiny and give them hell."

The event concluded with the question: "Is Turning Point dangerous to socialism?" Kirk's answer was unequivocal: "Absolutely."
