Erika Kirk Launches Make Heaven Crowded Tour After Her Husband Charlie Kirk's Tragic Death
Erika Kirk kicks off the Turning Point USA Make Heaven Crowded Tour at Harvest Church in Riverside, California, just months after her husband Charlie Kirk was murdered. Instead of protesting or rioting, Erika has channeled her grief into a nationwide series of worship services, fulfilling a marriage goal she shared with Charlie to spread the gospel and make heaven crowded. Dr. Frank Turek, who was with Charlie in his final moments, discusses Erika's faith and the spiritual warfare surrounding this tragedy.
Erika Kirk opened the Turning Point USA Make Heaven Crowded Tour at Harvest Church in Riverside, California, led by Pastor Greg Laurie. Speaking to a packed congregation, Erika shared the deeply personal origins of the tour's mission. When she and Charlie Kirk married, they made a deliberate choice to center their relationship on faith and evangelism.
"We wanted to be very intentional about how the Lord would use our marriage, and so we wrote down goals for our marriage," Erika explained. "One of our goals was to always spread the gospel. And attached to that at the top it was spread the gospel, make heaven crowded, and that was our thing."
Now, just months after Charlie's death, Erika has transformed their shared vision into a living memorial. "I wanted to take that piece of heaven from that memorial for my husband and bring it to everyone around this country," she said.
Responding to Tragedy with Worship
Dr. Frank Turek, Charlie Kirk's mentor who was in the vehicle driving Charlie to the hospital in his final moments, appeared on the program to discuss Erika's extraordinary response to her husband's murder. He marveled at her strength and spiritual resolve in the face of unspeakable tragedy.
"Isn't it amazing that she sees her husband brutally murdered and she doesn't start a riot. She doesn't start a protest. She doesn't somehow try and tear down other people or tear down the government," Dr. Turek said. "What she does is she starts a series of worship services, because she knows eternity is more important than anything that goes on here right now."
Dr. Turek emphasized that Erika's response reflects a deep understanding of the gospel message. "She wants people to know that the way you get to heaven is to trust in what Christ has done, because He lived the perfect life in our place," he explained.
Finding Strength in Scripture
During her address at Harvest Church, Erika drew on biblical passages that have sustained her through grief and ongoing attacks from critics. She specifically referenced the Gospel of John and how Mary, the mother of Jesus, stood at the foot of the cross witnessing the crucifixion.
"The most beautiful depiction of standing in the suffering, for me, was in John chapter 19 verse 25 where you have Mary, the mother of Jesus, standing at the foot of the cross," Erika shared. "She just watched the most unjust violence take place against the love of her life, love of our life."
This parallel between Mary's experience and her own has provided Erika with a model for endurance. As a mother and human being watching the Passion of Christ unfold, Mary demonstrated how faith can sustain someone through the most horrific circumstances.
Spiritual Warfare and Perseverance
Dr. Turek noted that Erika has been quoting from Ephesians chapters 5 and 6, particularly the passage about putting on the full armor of God. He explained that this spiritual armor has enabled Erika to withstand not only the trauma of losing her husband but also the continued attacks from those who have slandered her family without evidence.
"The fact that people keep trying to run her down after her husband was brutally murdered and they do this with no evidence, just slander, just accusations, just lies. It's awful," Dr. Turek said. "But it's interesting that Jesus and the apostles say Satan is a murderer, a slanderer, accuser, and liar. What have we had since the murder? Nothing but slander, accusation, and lies. This is spiritual warfare."
Despite these challenges, Erika remains committed to moving forward. "We're going to have a Make Heaven Crowded Tour, 30 different stops around the country to bring the saving message of Jesus to the world. That's amazing. You can only do that if you have the Holy Spirit," Dr. Turek emphasized.
The Charlie Kirk Effect
Charlie Kirk consistently preached about the importance of attending church on Sundays, and his impact has continued beyond his death. Since the tragedy, there has been a documented 15% increase in church attendance, a phenomenon being called "the Charlie Kirk effect."
This surge in faith engagement demonstrates that Charlie and Erika's mission to make heaven crowded is bearing fruit even in the wake of profound loss. The Make Heaven Crowded Tour represents the continuation of a vision that began in their marriage and now reaches across the nation through Erika's testimony and faith.
