Peter Schweizer Exposes How American Elites Sold Out to the Chinese Communist Party

Categories: Interviews
January 28, 2022

Peter Schweizer joins Charlie Kirk to discuss his book "Red Handed," which reveals the shocking connections between America's ruling class and the Chinese Communist Party. From Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi to Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg, Schweizer uncovers how politicians and tech titans justify their relationships with Beijing. The conversation explores whether these elite figures are motivated by profit or something more disturbing: an authoritarian impulse that admires China's dictatorial efficiency over American democracy. Schweizer's research exposes the pervasive nature of these ties across Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C.

The Elites on the Cover

Charlie Kirk welcomes investigative journalist Peter Schweizer to discuss his explosive book "Red Handed." The cover features some of America's most powerful figures: John Boehner, Elon Musk, Nancy Pelosi, LeBron James, Henry Kissinger, Bill Gates, and Joe Biden. Kirk immediately asks the central question: how do these elites justify selling out America to China?

Money Versus Authoritarian Impulse

Schweizer breaks down two distinct motivations driving America's elite toward Beijing. For politicians without significant wealth, like Joe Biden, the temptation is financial. "If you're in public life and you're a guy like Joe Biden and you want to accumulate assets or your family wants to accumulate assets, it's going to be very tempting and you're going to be willing to play ball," Schweizer explains.

But for billionaires like Bill Gates, worth over $100 billion, the motivation goes beyond money. Schweizer identifies something darker: "There's a you might say authoritarian impulse or an authoritarian lust that they have." These tech giants make statements praising China's decision-making efficiency and even claim that the Chinese dictatorship is more responsive to people's needs than America's democratic republic.

The God Complex of Tech Leaders

Schweizer references a fascinating observation from MIT computer scientist Joseph Weizenbaum from the 1970s. Weizenbaum noted that programmers can develop a god-like complex because unlike military commanders or political leaders, when programming, they are essentially god—they configure the program, the universe, the platform exactly as they want.

This insight helps explain figures like Mark Zuckerberg, who literally reformulated how people interact through Facebook. Weizenbaum's concern was that this leads tech workers to believe they should reorganize the rest of the world. Kirk expands on this disturbing reality: "It's like I can see what other people think as well, like I can go see their private messages, I can see their thoughts... I can manipulate them, I can actually incentivize them to buy certain products and feel certain ways and to get really depressed or really excited and I can control dopamine flows in teenage girls."

Bloomberg's Revealing Statement

The conversation touches on Mike Bloomberg's statement during his presidential campaign, where he defended Chinese President Xi Jinping, asking if people were really trying to tell him that Xi "isn't responsive to the needs of his people." This exemplifies the bizarre admiration some American elites have for authoritarian governance.

The Shocking Scope of the Problem

When Kirk asks if Schweizer was shocked by what he discovered, the answer is unequivocal: "Yes, yes I was." Schweizer expected more big names in tech and Wall Street to refuse to play Beijing's game. Instead, he found the opposite.

"Every single one of them has deep troubling and serious ties with Beijing," Schweizer reports. The list includes Bill Gates, the founders of Google, Mark Zuckerberg, and major Wall Street firms like BlackRock, Blackstone, and Ray Dalio's Bridgewater Associates—the biggest hedge fund in the world. All of them are "falling over themselves saying wonderful things about President Xi, turning their gaze elsewhere when it comes to serious human rights violations or the national security threat that China poses."

The Few Courageous Voices

Schweizer acknowledges that there are a few exceptions. He mentions Peter Thiel as someone who has "sounded the alarm bells on this very effectively." But these voices remain rare in the tech world.

Media Complicity

Perhaps most disturbing is Schweizer's observation about media coverage: "Nobody asks them these questions. When they go on CNBC, when they go on ABC News, they never get asked questions about the things they say about China. Never."

This media silence allows America's most powerful figures to maintain their relationships with the Chinese Communist Party without scrutiny or accountability. The conversation reveals a comprehensive pattern of compromise spanning politics, technology, finance, and media—a ruling class united not by American interests, but by their connections to Beijing.

[00:20] hey everybody welcome back we

[00:22] we are here with the great peter

[00:24] schweitzer red handed everyone check out

[00:26] the book right now peter we could get

[00:28] into this you know as we go case by case

[00:30] because i do want to get into the

[00:31] specifics of the book it's just such an

[00:33] important contribution what you've done

[00:34] here and courageous by the way because

[00:36] people are so afraid to touch this topic

[00:39] how much of this kind of selling out of

[00:41] the america to china how much of this is

[00:44] just kind of seeking profits

[00:46] you know what's the psychology behind

[00:48] here how do the how do these elites that

[00:50] you have on the front cover here john

[00:51] boehner elon musk nancy pelosi lebron

[00:54] james i think that's henry kissinger if

[00:55] i'm not mistaken um and then bill gates

[00:58] and then joe biden how do they justify

[01:00] this

[01:01] uh it's a great question charlie um i

[01:03] think for some people the motivation is

[01:05] profit and money particularly those that

[01:07] don't have a lot of it uh you know if

[01:10] you're in public life and you're a guy

[01:11] like joe biden

[01:13] and you want to accumulate assets or

[01:15] your family wants to accumulate assets

[01:18] it's going to be very tempting and

[01:19] you're going to be willing to play ball

[01:21] uh if

[01:23] you know you don't have moral problems

[01:25] with doing this with other people like

[01:27] bill gates who's worth you know 100

[01:29] billion dollars plus it's harder to

[01:31] understand and i think in a lot of cases

[01:33] the motivation isn't simply just about

[01:35] money uh i think if you look at bill

[01:38] gates i think if you look at elon musk

[01:41] i think if you look at the guys at

[01:42] google

[01:43] there's a

[01:44] you might say authoritarian impulse or

[01:47] an authoritarian lust

[01:50] that they have that's a pretty strong

[01:52] statement to make but they make these

[01:54] statements about china where they they

[01:57] talk about the fact that decision making

[01:59] in china is so much more efficient uh

[02:01] some of them even say that that the

[02:03] chinese dictatorship is more uh

[02:05] responsive to the needs of the people

[02:07] than america's uh democratic republic um

[02:11] it's a bizarre sort of position to have

[02:14] but i think they actually believe it and

[02:16] i quote in the book um from a computer

[02:19] scientist from mit in the 1970s a guy

[02:23] named wiesenbaum who makes a really

[02:25] interesting observation charlie he said

[02:28] those that work in technology that are

[02:30] computer programmers in a sense they can

[02:33] develop a god-like complex because

[02:36] unlike any military commander political

[02:39] leader when they are doing their work as

[02:41] a programmer they are god they get to

[02:44] configure the program the universe uh

[02:47] the platform the way that they want to

[02:49] do it that's what mark zuckerberg got to

[02:51] do with facebook he got to

[02:52] in a sense uh reformulate the way in

[02:55] which people interact and his concern

[02:58] was that this leads

[03:01] people in the tech space to think that

[03:04] they should start reorganizing the rest

[03:06] of the world so i think it's money uh

[03:09] certainly in the case of a lot of

[03:10] politicians uh but i think when it comes

[03:12] to these very wealthy elites on wall

[03:15] street in silicon valley uh there is

[03:17] this um respect and admiration that they

[03:20] have for dictatorship

[03:23] that's very troubling and i think is

[03:24] part of the reason they say such

[03:27] wonderful things about beijing it's not

[03:29] just getting access to the market they

[03:31] actually really believe some of this

[03:32] stuff

[03:33] that's such an important point i mean

[03:35] you remember mike bloomberg said that

[03:36] when he was running for office he's like

[03:38] well come on you're trying to tell me

[03:39] that gg ping isn't responsive to the

[03:40] needs of his people

[03:42] and you're right i mean mark zuckerberg

[03:43] it's not just a matter of being god and

[03:44] configuring a new universe it's even

[03:46] worse than that it's like i can see what

[03:47] other people think as well like i can go

[03:49] see their private messages i can see

[03:51] their thoughts and their scent i can

[03:52] manipulate them i can actually

[03:55] incentivize them to buy certain products

[03:57] and feel certain ways and to get really

[03:58] depressed or really excited and i can

[03:59] control dopamine flows in teenage girls

[04:02] like really creepy you're right it's

[04:03] it's beyond any sort of control that

[04:05] alexander the great ever would have

[04:06] possibly ever had

[04:08] you know 2500 years ago okay so we have

[04:10] two minutes left in this segment and

[04:11] then we have a break and then a really

[04:13] long segment that i want to dive into

[04:15] this with you but before we get into the

[04:17] specifics because the next segment i

[04:18] would just want to talk all about biden

[04:20] and i have so many questions about this

[04:22] when you did this research

[04:24] were you shocked at the extent of the

[04:28] connection between the american ruling

[04:30] class in every single industry to the

[04:32] chinese communist party

[04:34] yes yes i was i expected there to be

[04:37] more big names in big tech and on wall

[04:40] street who would refuse to play the game

[04:42] with beijing

[04:43] that's the the reality i mean if you

[04:45] look at the titans of the the tech world

[04:47] you're talking about bill gates you're

[04:49] talking about the founders of google

[04:50] you're talking about mark zuckerberg uh

[04:53] you know a few others that i mentioned

[04:54] the book every single one of them uh has

[04:57] deep troubling and serious ties with

[04:59] beijing same thing on wall street

[05:01] blackrock blackstone ray dalios

[05:04] bridgewater associates the biggest hedge

[05:06] fund in the world all of them falling

[05:08] over themselves saying wonderful things

[05:10] about president xi

[05:12] turning the uh their their gaze

[05:14] elsewhere when it comes to serious human

[05:17] rights violations or the national

[05:18] security threat that china poses um

[05:20] every single one of them is doing this

[05:23] so it is all pervasive uh there are a

[05:25] few courageous voices resisting this in

[05:28] the tech world i talk about peter thiel

[05:30] who has

[05:32] sounded the alarm bells on this very

[05:34] effectively but yes i'm alarmed by the

[05:37] extent i'm also alarmed by the fact

[05:39] charlie that nobody asks them these

[05:41] questions when they go on cnbc when they

[05:43] go on abc news they never get asked

[05:46] questions about the things they say

[05:47] about china never so we have to take a

[05:49] break it's red-handed peter schweitzer

[05:52] long segment coming up next and we are

[05:54] now going to get into biden and the

[05:56] specifics it'll blow your mind everybody

[05:58] charlie kirk be right back
