Charlie Kirk's Push for Trade Jobs Over College Degrees

Showing 12 Trade Jobs videos from Charlie Kirk's video collection.

Charlie Kirk built a recurring campus argument around the claim that college has become a scam for a large share of students, and pushed trade jobs as a more honest alternative. Citing statistics like a 41% college dropout rate and roughly half of graduates landing jobs that don't require a degree, Kirk challenged students across disciplines, from computer science to economics, to justify the cost against outcomes he considered a glorified credentialing exercise rather than genuine education. He pointed to alternatives directly, including apprenticeships and jobs paying $75,000 a year requiring only weeks of training rather than a four-year degree. Kirk expanded the argument in conversation with Mike Rowe, who described a genuine skills gap of millions of open trade positions, from welding to plumbing to electrical work, jobs Rowe argued are largely immune to AI disruption unlike many white-collar roles. Rowe traced the shortage to decades of parents and schools steering students toward four-year degrees almost by default, arguing the resulting cultural bias against trade work, not a lack of opportunity, is the real problem.
