Dave Rubin Exposes Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly's Shocking Turn Away From Conservative Movement

Dave Rubin joins Brandon Tatum to discuss the troubling transformation of Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, two former conservative media giants who have dramatically shifted their positions. Rubin, who knows both personally, explains how the transition from traditional media to independent platforms, combined with the pursuit of clicks and audience attention, led them down a path that culminated in platforming Nick Fuentes shortly after Charlie Kirk's assassination. The conversation explores the mechanics of how fame, algorithms, and selective pressures can corrupt even the most successful broadcasters, while also celebrating the upcoming live event with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in Miami on June 11th.

The Fall of Conservative Media Icons

Dave Rubin, host of the Rubin Report, joined Brandon Tatum for a candid discussion about the disturbing transformation of two prominent media figures: Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly. Speaking from personal experience, Rubin revealed that both individuals had been friends who visited his home, sent gifts when his children were born, and sought his advice during career transitions. However, their recent shift away from conservative principles has left him deeply disappointed.

Rubin explained that Tucker Carlson's departure from Fox News marked a critical turning point. At Fox, Carlson operated within a structured environment with producers writing content and maintaining editorial standards. When he entered the independent media space, he lost those guardrails. The first guest on his independent show was Douglas Murray, whom Carlson called "the greatest thinker of our time." Yet within months, Carlson was mocking Murray relentlessly due to their opposing views on Israel.

The most troubling moment came when Carlson interviewed Nick Fuentes just three months after Charlie Kirk's assassination. Fuentes was the one person Charlie explicitly wanted kept out of the conservative movement, having made threatening comments about Charlie and his family. Rather than challenging Fuentes, Carlson provided a platform for praise, despite having shown aggressive interviewing skills with figures like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee in the past.

Megyn Kelly's Calculated Pivot

Rubin expressed even greater disappointment in Megyn Kelly, whom he knew personally. He believes Kelly witnessed the attention Carlson received from the Fuentes interview and decided to pursue the same audience. Kelly quickly turned against former friends and allies, ignoring constructive feedback from supporters who questioned her direction. She has since pretended to be a victim while attacking those who previously supported her.

Most revealing was Kelly's inconsistency on Trump. After claiming Trump was ruining the country and being manipulated by others, she recently stated she would endorse him again and doesn't regret her previous endorsement. Rubin predicted that before the midterms, Kelly will fully return to supporting Trump and pretend her recent criticisms never happened.

The Mind Virus of Obsession

Rubin identified what he called a "mind virus" affecting both Carlson and Kelly: an obsessive focus that distorts perspective. Both loved Trump and campaigned for his election, but the moment he made decisions they disagreed with, they blamed manipulation by others rather than accepting Trump might simply have different views. Carlson has contradicted himself, claiming Trump is both controlled by others and a "sorcerer" who can manipulate anyone around him.

The Israel issue became central to their transformation. Rubin noted that if clicks and audience numbers are the primary goal, there are strategic reasons to shift positions. With approximately 2 billion Muslims worldwide versus 16 million Jews, the math favors a certain narrative. Kelly even acknowledged that Carlson is gaining an audience of young Muslim men, revealing the calculated nature of these shifts.

The Cable News Mentality in Independent Media

A key insight from Rubin was that both Carlson and Kelly remain cable news personalities at heart, even in the independent space. They prioritize attention and views above all else because that's what their previous careers conditioned them to value. Rubin contrasted this with creators like himself and Tatum, who entered independent media authentically saying what they believe and attracting audiences who agree, rather than calculating positions based on potential reach.

Rubin also raised questions about funding, noting rumors that Carlson receives Qatari money. Carlson visited Qatar, claimed he was buying a house there, and went to Saudi Arabia saying he felt safe as a Christian in "the seat of Islam," despite Saudi Arabia having no Christian churches except for slave laborers who have had their passports stolen. The inconsistency between claiming Christian values while defending countries that suppress Christianity raised serious questions about motivations.

Celebrating Success: An Evening with Ron DeSantis

Shifting to positive news, Rubin discussed his upcoming live event with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on June 11th at the Fillmore in Miami Beach. The event celebrates DeSantis as he approaches his final months as governor of what Rubin calls "the freest state in the union." With 2.3 million people moving to Florida during DeSantis's tenure, the state represents a model for what a successful America could look like.

The evening will feature a live Rubin Report with that day's news, a sit-down conversation with Governor DeSantis, stand-up comedy from Adam Carolla, and appearances by Ben Shapiro and Jillian Michaels. Rubin wants to show the side of DeSantis that people didn't see during his presidential campaign—the relaxed version having whiskey and cigars, talking baseball with his feet up. The goal is to celebrate the victories and demonstrate that conservative governance works.

The Importance of Integrity in Media

Throughout the conversation, both Rubin and Tatum emphasized the critical importance of integrity in independent media. Rubin acknowledged he will get facts wrong occasionally, misremember dates, or make incorrect predictions, but these mistakes come from good faith efforts, not calculated deception. He pointed out Carlson's pattern of making dramatic claims without evidence, such as stating "everyone knows" about treachery in the administration, then admitting when pressed that he doesn't actually know anyone in government or have any evidence.

Tatum emphasized that he never created content for money but because he wanted to express genuine beliefs. The fact that it became financially successful was fortunate but not the driving motivation. This authenticity attracts audiences who share similar values, creating sustainable communities rather than chasing temporary trends. The conversation served as both a warning about how even successful figures can lose their way and a reminder that lasting influence comes from consistency and honesty rather than viral moments and algorithm gaming.
