Charlie Kirk on Expanding Turning Point USA Worldwide and Why Republicans Must Fight to Win
Charlie Kirk discusses the expansion of Turning Point USA beyond America's borders, with plans for Turning Point UK and upcoming visits to Brazil. With six countries already represented, from Australia to Germany, Kirk explains why the fight for Western civilization requires a worldwide movement. He shares the core message that will remain consistent across all nations: freedom must be preserved, free enterprise is the most moral economic system, and the rule of law is paramount. Kirk also addresses what Republicans can learn from the Trump presidency and offers his best advice for engaging with the left in debate.
Charlie Kirk confirms that Turning Point USA is expanding internationally, with Turning Point UK already in the works and a planned visit to Brazil in May. The amount of interest in what Turning Point USA is doing has become extraordinary, evolving into a worldwide movement. Kirk notes that six countries are currently represented at their events, including Australia, Brazil, the UK, and Germany.
Kirk explains that this has become a fight for Western civilization. While America remains the most important piece—as America goes, the entire world goes—partners and allies for freedom in other countries are starving for an organization like Turning Point USA to give them the programming, platform, and training to fight back against the Marxists and the radical left.
The Core Message Remains Consistent
When asked if the messaging changes for different countries with different rules and laws, Kirk states they are working through those details now. However, the core message will stay the same across all countries:
Freedom must be preserved and protected in all countries
The free enterprise system is the most moral, proven, and effective economic system ever discovered
The rule of law must be paramount in any civil society
Western civilization is the greatest experiment that has occurred ever in the history of humanity
This consistent message will be carried throughout every country that Turning Point USA engages with.
The Future of the Republican Party
Regarding the future of Republican leadership after President Trump leaves office, Kirk expresses hope that the GOP has shifted its identity. He hopes Republicans have become a party that fights and understands that when they fight, they win.
Kirk points to recent examples of this fighting spirit paying off. With the border wall debate, things changed because Trump refused to go along with the status quo or sign a continuing resolution to keep the government open. All of a sudden, the House passed the bill that included more funding for border security and the wall. Similarly, with Justice Brett Kavanaugh, if Republicans hadn't fought and instead relented and dropped the nomination as many wanted, they wouldn't have filled that Supreme Court seat with an honorable justice.
The number one lesson to learn from the Trump presidency, according to Kirk, is that when Republicans are allowed to fight—in fact, when they have to fight—and when they do fight, they win.
What Fighting Looks Like
Kirk defines what fighting means in practical terms. First and foremost, it means not backing down to the mob. The left's number one weapon is the mob, and they use it in various forms:
Boycotts
Social media attacks from individuals who come after conservatives
Attempting to storm college campuses
Trying to confront people in the streets
The left is a mob that uses these tactics to silence conservatives. Fighting means standing for truth no matter how difficult it is, and Trump has done that heroically time and time again.
Best Advice for Engaging in Debate
Kirk offers his best advice for anyone—students or otherwise—who wants to engage in debate with the left. His recommendations include:
Ask questions
Be civil, even when they won't be
Do not engage in ad hominem attacks, even if they do
Use humor and wit where possible
Understand that conservatives have the best data, facts, and logic
Kirk warns that opponents will immediately try to attack your intentions. He emphasizes that if they claim to have good intentions, there's no way they can possibly be a leftist, because leftists want to destroy America as we know it.
The Difference Between Liberals and Leftists
Kirk makes a clear distinction between liberals and leftists. Liberals might actually want to preserve America—they just have a different way to interpret it. Leftists, on the other hand, want the complete and fundamental destruction of Western civilization in this country.
According to Kirk, leftists believe:
Capitalism is a mistake
We live in a rigged patriarchy
The Judeo-Christian construct is evil
They want to burn down everything that conservatives love and hold dear. While we can have a simple conversation about it, Kirk concludes, we have very little to agree on with leftists.
